Benefit of x-box Live beta?

So I get an email from microsoft that I can participate int the Xbox live beta if I order the kit for $49.99.
WHat's the benefit of doing this if the kit is $49.99 anywhere you go anyway?
Thanks!

Go ahead and get it just for bragging rights. It's nice to get something different for a change. I set mine up today and fell in love with it.

Hope to see you around LIVE, my Gamertag is:

I played with your son on XBL for a while the other night, we worked out a deal: the car is being shipped tomorrow to your place, and it has the bag of money in it. I expect the Yi-Guh-Yah cards damn soon though.

The Orange Memory card is pretty cool. I think only the beta testers get that.

Yeah, but if you're planning to get it anyway then you get two extra weeks and still pay the same as everyone else. You also are guaranteed a live package when it goes online, I don't know if they'll be tough to get but if they are you're all set.

Watch out for some pre-order combo deals if you don't get it in the beta.

Basically the difference is that you get in a couple weeks early and you get a buggy beta copy of NFL Fever 2003. The other two games you get are the same as what everyone else gets. You don't get a free memory card or anything else anymore.

MotoGP is great, but hard to play for very long without your hands tiring of holding down the accellerator, and I keep wishing one of the car games worked online. Racing 13 other people online is pretty cool. Whacked is a bit out of control and hard to follow. You run around and pick up weapons to attack the other characters with. Whoever picks up 100 stars first wins. NFL Fever supposedly quits working after Live officially launches, and it barely works now. It doesn't boot about half the time and I have yet to finish a game.

At this point I am going to pass as well. I am not sure if they charge for shipping but i am waiting to get mine at Best Buy using my $5 coupon. MS had their chance now they are just trying to lock in the number of subscribers they can claim to have before the holidays. They should offer some sort of bone to get people to sign up now. Even if it is a crappy T-shirt

I heard a rumor that there is gonna be a new version of Halo that will work with Xbox live, and you trade in your old disc to get this new one, is that true?

My Xbox beta kit shipped monday morning.. can't wait to get it

Here's a techie question... I have a cable modem and an extra network card I can put in my PC. If I use Windows XP's internet connection sharing feature, and then plug my Xbox into my PCs extra card, will Xbox live work? Or, do I need to go out and buy a router or pay an extra $10 for a second IP address or something? I think it makes my PC be a proxy server, but I dunno for sure...

Hey Necros,

You don't need a 2nd ip addy, don't waste yer money.
Just get a router, that way you don't have to have your system on to play live.

Well my PC is on all the time anyway.. and I'd rather not go buy a new router if the ICS thing will work ok cuz I already have what i need to do it.. so will it work ok with the Xbox?

i'm kinda interested in necros first Q. About a new version of Halo for XBLive being released. Yes? - No? Becase TO ME (avoid the flames) this would be the only reason to get live.

You can play Halo online right now. Just go over to gamespy and get hooked up.

Edstein,
Gamespy Arcade is so laggy, try Xbconnect.

Necros,
Then yes sharing your connection by using 2 nics in one system should work. Not sure about the WinXP setup, but it should be pretty straigt forward. I'd recommend the cablemodem/router route just to make things easier.

let me know if you have any questions.

I seriously doubt that Halo rumor, especially with Bungie absolutely denying that there will be a "Halo 1.5" with simply online options enabled. I would love it, but I don't think it will happen. You're going to have to wait a year to play Halo online.

Does xbox live work among the other xbox versions? like the Japanese ones? Also, I have a DSL connection but I live in Japan but I have a U.S. XBOX. If I get live, can I play with you all?

I signed up for the beta on the first day, so did my dog, and I'm still not on beta.

If that Halo rumor were true, it wouldn't be a rumor, they would publicise it all over the place. I don't see how keeping something like that a secret would help anybody.

What would be nice is a way for Systemlink games to connect through Live the way people use Gamespy and Xbconnect. Unfortunately there weren't many systemlink games to begin with

I went ahead and ordered the beta kit today. I figured it was worth $5 to have it a week or so early. Can't wait to get it and play some Unreal. (when it finally gets released).
