Why shouldn't I buy a PS2?

Other than really not having a lot of spare cash right now, I could easily swing buying a PS2..

I really really really NEED GTA:VC...

Now's the time to buy. The price dropped early this year, there are a ton of games out and around X-mas their will be a lot of deals to be had! Maybe their will be a bundle deal with your GTA:VC?

If it wasn't for GTA: Vice City, I would sell my PS2. I say get one. Price is low and tons of good cheap games (greatest hits) that will be a nice compliment to GTA:VC

If it weren't for GTA, Frequency alone would almost make it a worthwhile purchase for me.

Hold off a little to gamble on the price dropping again within 30 days of your purchase. Buy in the middle of next month. Other than that, by all means, get one.

Why not?!? PS2 is a great system, and right now you can pick up some fantastic 'classic' titles for under $20 (Tony Hawk 3, NBA Street)

You shouldn't have sold it in the first place.

But seriously though, If Vice City's all that interests you, I'd hold off for a better deal. $275 (PS2, Mem Card, game) is a bit high for one game. Especially for a system you decided you didn't want to own a couple of months ago.

Personally, there's no way I'd part with my PS2, it's been getting the bulk of my gaming time since I picked it up in May.

In the new issueof PSM they talk about the 60% chance of a price drop around Thanksgiving. But you need it on the 29th for GTA:VC

That would be excellent if they had a price drop around Thanksgiving. If I pick on a new PS2 this Tuesday, I would just make it under the 30 day mark if the price did in fact drop by the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Gamespot has reported that GTA: Vice City is going to be on the PC as well. Its PS2 exclusivity only applies to other consoles, but not the PC.

Any idea how long of a wait till Vice City arrives on PC? Hopefully it won't be as long as it was for GTA3. ::crosses fingers::

No price drop will happen till at least 31 days after December 24th.

In fact I do not expect another price drop till around E3 next year. By then I would think they will lower it to $149.99.

Of course the XBox is the wild card since if they drop their price the others will follow. Since the XBox is in third place this could happen although they are trying to hold the price at $199.99 by bundling more into it to help sales.

You can probably bank on GTA: VC not being out on the PC until at least Q1 of next year (probably start of Q2).

Sad that it will take them that long as GTA was once a PC only game...

True, but it's pointless to just look at one market. Overall worldwide sales are the bottom line in the business, for all three companies.

If MS only cared about U.S. sales, they wouldn't have released the X-box in Japan, Europe, etc.

Do you already have another system?

Personally, I wouldn't buy a whole other system for just one or two games. Especially if there are many games that you're planning to buy on the system you already own.

I have just a PS2. And though I've been tempted to buy the other systems to play games like Halo, Mario Sunshine, etc., and the deals are getting better and better, I have a hard enough time affording all the PS2 games I want. Having another system will just make it worse.

Of course, if you have the money to spend, why not? The PS2 is a great system, and if there are other games exclusive to it that you want, by all means enjoy.

But then again, we're talking about a price drop here.

No Progressive Scan, No 5.1 sound. You have a computer. If it is fast buy "Mafia". Similar to the GTA series and very good.

I second that. My computer won't run it, but I played it at a friend's house and it was amazing.

This post isn't about Xbox (TBALL has that) or who is in 2nd or 3rd place, it's why TBALL should or shouldn't buy a PS2. I say hold onto your shorts TBALL and wait to see if a bundle happens. You'll want to kick yourself in the nuts if they try and one up MS with a bundle.
