From http://members.cox.net/xboxfaq/faq.htm :
2.12 What type of optical audio cable should I buy?

Buy the cheapest optical cable you can find. Since the cable will be carrying digital data, you don't need fancy connectors or extra shielding. Either the cable will work or it wont, and the odds are that even the cheapest cable will work fine.
Note: If you have a Monster A/V kit, you will be required to use the proprietary (and expensive) Monster optical cable.

I just got my monster cable hook up for optical and so far my Yamaha receiver has NOT shown it's getting a DD 5.1 signal.
Onimusha and Jet Set Radio Future have the 5 speaker symbol on the box and when I tried them the receiver still said PRO LOGIC and I didn't hear any 5.1 sound.
I read on that link that some Monster cables have problems and need to be replaced by the Monster cable company.

Giantrobo,
Did you go into the XBox setup menu and enable DD5.1 and/or DTS. Remove all games and power the Xbox on. I have 3 Monter lightwave cables and have no problems with any of them and one was bought openbox. DOA3 & JSRF + 5.1DD = Nice

Even though I had the Xbox set up right for digital, I had the same problem getting my A/V reciever to pick up the digital signal. The problem was that I had Video2 (that my Xbox is connected to), set on "Analog" and I had to change the setting to "Optical1" manually on the reciever because the default for all the channels was Analog.

So, what's the secret code to get to the DD 5.1 screen ot enable it on Xbox????
Not the Mono, Stereo, Dolby Surround screen.
So far 2 guys told me there's another screen I haven't accessed yet but neither could remember the way to get there again.

An update.....
I called MICROSOFT and they said that if the DD5.1 works---- ONLY then--- will the NEW DD5.1 OPTION will show up.
In my case only DOLBY SURROUND showed. Apparently my Monster cable or at least the adapter is NOT working and this is why the DD5.1 doesn't show as an option.
I GOT ONE OF THOSE BAD(in terms of xbox) MONSTER CABLE KITS....
I don't want to get a new one from MONSTER so I'll just take it back to FUNCOLAND and use the credit for the MS advanced pack
It's interesting though, I know the optical cable alone works because I tested it on my dvd player and it passed the digital 5.1 info fine both DD and DTS.
What a hassle. I hope it's worth it....
