Apples and Oranges. If the Gameboy Advance had a new processor and went to six buttons instead of four, then the old GBA would be useless for new games that took advantage of the new stuff. You would have to buy a new system and yes it is too soon to completly change the Game Boy platform. 4-5 years is still the standard life of a game system.

I just bought a new truck a month ago. The new trucks that come out next year are still going to take the same gas and go the same places they will just look a little different. So its not the same thing.

If Nintendo justs adds a backlight and moves the buttons around, but keeps it at four then everything will be fine, because the new and old GBA will play all the same games.

Time will tell, I guess we will have to wait for the earthshattering announcement.
