Anyone use cable extensions for the PS1 or PS2?

I have read that they can fry your system, etc. Anyone have any experience?

controller cable extensions?

kvrdave 10-07-02 02:34 PM

yep, sorry I wasn't clear.

i've been using a 10' cable extension for the ps2 for about a year now... cheap $10 one; no problems (yet  ) - thanks for getting me worried... ;)

I use them for both the XBox and PS2 no problem.

Me too. Now I'm freakin' out.

No problems for me either, after about a year.

Here is where I saw the potential problem.

it's just 2 user reviews. A lot of times those are just people being idiots.

I've been using two 10 foot extensions for a year and a half. No problems whatsoever.

Probably just some troll.

I bought cable extensions about 3 or 4 years ago for my PS1. I use the same extensions for my PS2 now. Never any problems and they totally rock ass. You can play from the couch which is FAR across the room.

I just wish that Sony comes up with a wireless controller like Wavebird.

Seriously. A first party wireless controller would be great.

I wouldn't worry too much about those reviews... Chances are someone had a PS2 problem and they called Sony. When they caled Sony they probably mentioned that they used third party extensions so the CSR told them that's what caused the problem. I'm sure all three console producers would say the same thing - you're using an unnlicensed product so the risk is yours. (All it really means is if you have a problem with your console don't ever tell them that you used anything but official peripherals.)

I've been using cable extensions for my PS2 and Gamucube (the Xbox cords are the only ones that reach my couch without an extension) for months and haven't had any problems.

I paid about $10 each for my extension cables - i think they are mad catz - and they have worked great.

gcribbs 10-09-02 01:56 AM

unless the cable had a short in it I see no way it could fry the system.

In fact even if it had a short in it the most likely result would be the controller would not work correctly not that the PS2 would be fried.

I don't think a cable extension can fry a system. A bad third party controller can, as it can give or take too much power and blow a fuse.

Been using PS2 controller extensions for over a year, and GameCube extensions for about 6 months, no probs yet!
