Something about a bridge that collapses and Blinx is supposed to use the time tricks to end up crossing the bridge before it collapses. Unfortunately Blinx never made it back over the bridge (due to a bug). Even after executing the time trick, Blinx would always be *under* the bridge. I had high hopes for this game. I love platformers, and thought Blinx might join Halo on my list of games good enough to tempt me to by the system.
However, from the reviews, I get the impression that it's just an OK platformer. Not a bad game, but not on par with the cream of the crop (i.e. Mario Sunshine and Rayman 2). I'll check it out myself before forming a final opinion of course, but with the reviews, and the whole time control thing that I was skeptical of to begin with, I doubt I'll be very impressed. |
That gamespy review was damn harsh. I usually trust their reviews, but that guy seemed like he was out to prove something.

Well, I hate to be saying this, but I'll probably take it back. It's a great game and it definitely has its moments, but I'm just not having any fun. kinda weird.
The time things are great, and definitely much more than a gimmick (hopefully other xbox developers will take the hint re: hard drive usage), and the graphics are sweet, but there are just a few niggling things that are bothering me. Blinx is just a little too slow, and the one hit death thing is really annoying. Especially from certain angles. Also, some aspects of the gameplay are just not intuitive enough -- I mean, there are really no hints on the bosses - what are their weak points, where do you hit them, when, etc? Also, missing the kinds of crystals that you need sometimes means restarting the level. It's definitely a great game, but the fun's just not there for me. oh well. I'll have to try Hitman 2 instead. edit -- for the record, I'm on the third boss now, after about 2 hours of play. Tuan Jim |
I rented Blinx tonight, I've got to say I'm disappointed, it doesn't suck nearly as bad as I was lead to believe.
The game reminds me a lot of a previous Sega xbox effort formally known as GUNVALKYRIE, only with easier control and time manipulation along w/ item throwing instead of a jetpack and guns. So.. it isn't a "Classic" game by any means, and I am a little disappointed that the time feature was better implemented (and the rewind function is a little glitchy, not for bridges or anything - works fine there - but when using it on a boss, they seem to be able to plan future moves while going in reverse and tend to be progressing slowly while being sent back in time.) as far as puzzles go, but outside of that it's a pretty solid platformer, and I am enjoying it. As for backtracking to find enemies, I prefer doing this than shine hunting in Mario Sunshine, I dunno, I guess I'm just sick of the standard platformer fare anymore, Blinx is a good breathe of imperfect, yet still fresh, air. (I'm also on the third boss.) |
I also rented it today. I defeated 2 of the bosses and am in the middle of the third level (stage? world?) right now. Very fun game, and I'm enjoying the gameplay and the originality of the time aspects. As someone else pointed out, yeah the camera is not the greatest, but it's no worse than Mario Sunshine. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be playing this much longer - it appears that I've discovered yet another game that causes me to feel nauseous while playing. And while Twisted Metal and GTA3 were such great games I was willing to play even though I felt like crap afterwards (plus I was able to handle GTA3 after turning the trails option to "off") - I don't know if Blinx is on that level!! I know, I know - I'm such a wimp.

Extended Play gave it 3 out of 5. Their biggest complaint was the camera angles. They didn't seem to hate it as much as other reviews though.

Okay, I just sat down wit this title for about 4 hours. I don't think it's as bad as a 50%. So far, I would put this somewhere between 60-75%. It's far and and away from a great game. It may save it self later on, but with 4 hours in it's not quite doing it.
My main complaint is how the game flows. Some parts are good, and then the next part is just annoying. If they had spent another 6 months to a year on polishing the title it may be really good. The basic idea is mostly solid as far as I can tell. It has enjoyable moments. But again the flow of the game keeps me from really getting into it. Perhaps if they create a sequal they can address the issue. The camera is not that bad as some of the reviews say. I'm going to give the game another 3 hours of my time, and if it doesn't improve I doubt I'll bother with the rest of the game. I can't really afford to. That said I have not enountered any "bugs" as mentioned above; so far so good. |

So, I walk into Blockbuster on Friday and they have only 1 copy of Blinx...and of course it is gone. Pretty sad for a major first-party release from Microsoft. I was all ready to go in and rent it to make my own opinion about the game...guess I'll have to wait a bit now.

I rented it on friday and played it a little last night.. Great ideas and concept for a game, and the graphics weren't too bad.. But I have to agree that the camera angle was very hard to control and found myself getting stuck behind things very often because the camera doesn't follow the character.
Also, the one hit death thing is annoying, esp if you don't buy or get the gem combo's to get a retry. I'm still a bit torn on this.. I may finish out the rental and then look for it cheap on ebay or in the stores down the line. I was really looking forward to it as well. |

Daryl This happens to me when sit to close to my 36 Direct view TV (about 4-5 feet). When, I move back to say 8-10 feet, I have no problem... just though it was me, but then even though I love rollercoasters, I just can't ride them....:( I hope I don't have this problem with the game since I just ordered Blinx. |
