Is this a general offer or limited to certain stores or what? Just wondering -- I have a few friends who'd buy this in a second they have them locally.

My guess is that everyone will have it - even Costco.

Lastblade 10-02-02 05:01 PM

Has this been confirmed anywhere else?? I don't want to get my hopes too high...

JSRF is going for lower $20s on Half.com, and Sega GT around $40. If you don't want either, I'm sure you could sell this disc for around $50 on Ebay. Maybe more.

It's PAL and requires 240V so not real useful for the rest of the world. The Halo pack also has a dvd remote included (to compete with the PS2 dvd pack)

They won't bundle Halo with it because Halo is rated M for Mature. I can never remember a Mature game being sold with any console ever, but it is a small samply survey to begin with. At least that is my take on it. However another reason is that Halo is the Microsoft money maker out of the entire XBOX line. They lose a lot on lots of stuff, but Halo is a cash cow, same as any hit game.

I thought this too when I bought my Dreamcast Sports bundle that came w/ NFL and NBA 2k but I could not trade them in at EB b/c they did not have a barcode. Might want to be careful about buying this and then trading the games in.

Gromit 10-03-02 05:26 PM

I wonder if the regular Xbox controller will even be available in a year or so. It sounds like MS is moving towards the S controller more and more (ads, this promo, etc).

I didn't vote in the polll in the other thread because there was no 'either one' option. I like 'em both about the same. It was a close call, but I returned an S controller for a regular one, mainly just to have two of the same controller. Of course, you could also say it would be nice to have one of each for the variety.

I wonder how much this costs MS? Not counting the packaging and promo costs, they just have to pay Sega for the price of GT and JSRF on one DVD. It's not cheap, but it's not like it adds $80 to MS's price for each box.

On the other hand, considering how much they're already losing, I think this shows that MS is in this for long haul.

I addressed this point earlier in the thread. I would sell the games on Ebay, not trade them in at EB.

And you would have no problem doing so, you may take a slight cut, but the price of JSRF is bottoming out fast with all the places having them on clearance.

I'll probably just hold off, as there's no way I'll get enough to buy Halo and another game. I'll just wait for another price drop or a bundle with games i want.

PixyJunket 10-04-02 12:40 PM

Sweet deal. I own JSRF but I still need an XBOX. Sounds good to me. As far as the controller goes.. I like them both. It depends on the game.. for the games that use heavy analog, racing games, etc.. the regular controller is superior. But I always felt the S controller was much better when playing WWF Raw, and I'm sure the same would be true for other fighting style, or arcade-action like games. I don't see where the size complaints are coming from. If there should have ever been a complaint about controller size, check out the original NES and SNES controllers. No human over 8 can comfortablly use those!! :)

These evil Microsofties! I've wanted an x-box for like 4 months and finally talked myself out of it. Now they go and do this. Ugh. I'm gonna have to buy one now. This plus x-box live. Ugh. Restraint. Control. Ugh.

It could be worse...at least you didn't give into temptation only to have this deal come along after you'd already bought it :)

Tuan Jim 10-04-02 09:12 PM

Any more details on where this deal is taking place? I went by my local gamestop to reserve blinx and nobody there had heard anything at all about the deal. They were pretty clueless.

Has it been limited to a few certain stores or what?

You must have been in BestBuy

Canis Firebrand 10-05-02 09:32 PM

Man.. And I just bought my xbox too, a couple weeks ago... Cut the upc label off it fir the dvd kit rebate, and its all hooked up.

I'd love 2 more games and another controller for the price I paid

Groucho 10-06-02 12:52 PM

I still haven't seen confirmation of this deal anywhere but posts to message boards.

Ditto. Nothing confirmed. The fact that is says Limited Edition and there is no mention of the price for this pack for 199.99 makes me think that I may not get in on this deal after all. One thing that does make me think I will get in on it is the fact that refurbed and used xboxs are dropping price at multiple game stores. So maybe. A week I will know for sure.

Gallant Pig 10-06-02 05:28 PM

Well it does say after Oct. 15th, we'll just have to be patient and wait. Stores won't get new inventory until probably the weekend before or maybe it won't be shipped until Oct 15th.

I was wondering if anyone had the Best Buy or Circuit City ad from next week?

this deal has been confirmed. :D

Gallant Pig 10-09-02 01:39 AM

I would say they are trying to keep this annoucenment secret because they don't want the sales to bottom out weeks before it is announced/being sold.

diesteldorf 10-09-02 02:07 AM

I ordered an XBox from Buy.com on 10/4 that still hasn't shipped yet and is shown as SENT TO WHAREHOUSE.
Does anyone know how good/efficient Buy.com's return policy is? Do refunds take long to process?

The reason I ask is obvious. With the new Xbox bundles coming out, I may just return this and reorder.
It may cost me $10-$15 to return, but the free games with the bundle would justify the expense.

Gizmo 10-09-02 08:24 AM

Dies, just return the X-Box to Best Buy for $199+tax credit.

By another post to a message board? It's not confirmed until we see something official from either Microsoft or a retailer's ad.

I agree with Gallant Pig, however, that if it is a legit deal we won't know for sure until the last minute (similiar to the price drops earlier this year), as they'll want to keep it hush hush.

s}{ammer 10-09-02 09:44 AM

Groucho, that is exactly what I was going to say.

tygloalex 10-09-02 10:33 AM

Ditto as well. Messages to internet boards definitely do not count. I remember a message here saying xbox will be $149.99 come September 13th or something. That didn't happen.

s}{ammer 10-09-02 10:48 AM

Well, don't get me wrong, I have no doubt that this could come through and I can see why they wouldn't make it official until just before they do it, I would personally like to see official statements though. :)

El-Kabong 10-09-02 03:15 PM

Bah! A pox on you, MS if this turns out to be true! I've resisted this long, but the hat trick of free DVD remote, Shenmue 2 and free games has destroyed my will to fight.

I'll just open my wallet now. . . .
