Favorite 2600 Game

It's funny to think how far we've come. As simple as those old Atari games were and as awful as some of them were (ET, Raiders, Custer's Revenge), some were damn entertaining.

My favorite was Pitfall. Man, I loved that game when it came out. It seems so simple now, but at the time I was totally blown away.

Any other fond memories?

The video game company with the consistently superior library was Activision. HERO, Pitfall, River Raid, Megamainia - all were The Bomb of it's day. Back then it was all about artistic quality - pity they haven't maintained that attitude through to today.

Hmmm, I really should dig my old Atari out - it'll really blow some peoples minds when I plug that low tech sucker into my 52 inch HDTV and surround sound home theater.

So - as an aside: How many games did/do you guys have for the 2600?

Don't ruin a good memory by playing them today. I just played a bunch of roms and I wished I left it to memory. Great system but my sytem of that era was the intellivision. How far we have come.

Star Raiders was my all time favorite.

I also like Haunted House, Adventure, and Astroids.

Hey, I liked E.T. It's not bad once you understand what you're doing. But my favorite would be Moon Patrol. Not only is the game fun to play, but it actually had music (and fairly good music at that). Some other games I like a lot are Phoenix, Warlords, Frogger, Ms. Pac-Man, Solaris, Frogs & Flies, etc.

So - as an aside: How many games did/do you guys have for the 2600?
I had about 30 games back in the '80s before I sold my system. I ended up buying one back again just a few years ago, and now I have about 40 games (some of which are games I owned when I was younger and some which aren't).

Don't ruin a good memory by playing them today. I just played a bunch of roms and I wished I left it to memory.
I'd disagree with that. It may be easy to turn it on for two minutes and say "this looks like crap," but they're the same games they were back then. Also keep in mind that most older games have a different objective than games of today. Rather than trying to "get to the end," you're often trying to beat your high score. Most old games lacked depth, but going for a new high score is what gives them replay value. (Much like Crazy Taxi and some racing games of today). Give them a fair chance and you just might enjoy them once again.

My first sports game I ever liked (besides baseball on intellivision) was the real sports version of Atari football. Played that to death.
