Wasn't there a rumor awhile back that Nintendo said they might want to keep the GC in service more than the typical lifespan?? The reasins they gave were that there wasn't much more they could do------------the graphical capabilities were reaching their limit, and until there was a breakthrough**, they would conserve $$ and just use the GC.
Sounds like a good strategy-----------let M$ and Sony spend millions for R & D and marketing consoles that aren't that much ahead of the previous generation*, while Nintendo saves $$ and puts out more games for their system. That way, GC will have plenty of games, they won't need to lose $$ making new consoles, and their system will be more attractive, since people won't need to buy a new console for a Nintendo system with a huge library of games **(by breakthrough I mean in the terms of the jump from 2D to 3d-------SNES - N64) *all that happened with the jump from PS - PS2 and N64 - GCN was that 3D graphics got better than they were, not a HUGE leap that occured from 2D - 3D Can anyone find a link to that story, or is this just a rumor?? |
I hear what you are saying Chaos, but I think that would be a mistake for Nintendo. Yes it makes sense on the surface, but in reality it would fail.
There is still plenty of room for improvement in games, whether Nintendo wants to recogize it or not. On top of that, consumers will be wowed over by flashy graphics and features that the GC will never be able to compete with if Nintendo were to extend it two lifespans. Thankfully the "rumor" is based on a e qoute that isn't exactly a confirmation of plans, rather an idea. I doubt Nintendo will try to do this. They would only force themselves to goto software only. What Nintendo really should do is get some Xbox2 and PS3 dev kits, reverse engineer them, be the last to market as usual, and release a system that plays games for both. And sell it for less. :) Thus taking the market back all at once. Oh yes, it would also play special discs that only Nintendo's system could play. |
