To stay on topic, I will be getting NFL2k3 for XBOX and will sign up for XBL day one.

I'm assuming that the 50/yr deal is only an introductory rate and after that it's 100/yr (just assuming this). If that's the case, I would hate to sign up so early on just to have to re-sign up when Halo 2 comes out. I may get it though, I'm not sure yet.
Free non-989 football on the PS2 just makes things more... complicated.

Probably 2k3 for Xbox for me.
I enjoyed the flawed first effort of NFL 2k. Then 2k1 was much improved and allowed for great online league play. Then I skipped DC 2k2, and, as a change of pace, bought Xbox Fever last year, which was a very good first effort. (I thought that was one of the best efforts at making manual defense fun... if only DB AI wasn't SOOOOOoooo pathetic
) I also rented NFL 2k2 Xbox, and was glad I didn't buy it.
Now, with seemingly such little effort put into this year's Fever, it's wide open. I rented NCAA 2003 and liked it, so Madden's certainly in contention. But after reading about the overhaul Sega's made in their first year of true non-DC football game development, I'd like to reward their ambition and innovation. And considering most reviews have 2k3's quality at the same level as Madden or slightly above, it would hardly be a sacrifice to do so.
But, just to be sure, before I buy either, here I come Blockbuster. Thank you, Gaming Pass.

2k2 was the best football game I ever played so I will be allover 2k3. I hope you change your mind on XBL so we can get some good dvdtalk splinter cell, football, and bball games going...

I hear 2K3 is a whole new arena... Maybe it'll come down to Sega's Online plans... Are they planning on charnging PS2 for 2K games Online?
I'd *love* to get XBL and the PS2 modem, but I'm extremely *poor* right now and have to choose one... just not sure which yet.

If all of the 3rd parties start charging for online play in addition to the $49...im not sure I will keep it or even sign-up.

If you prefer Sega Sports get NCAA 2k2, if you prefer EA, get NCAA 2003.
I am sure EA's offerings are good.. but am used to, and love, the Sega Sports offerings since NFL 2k..
NFL 2k got my into sports games, and I cant even play EA's offerings now without cringing and wanting my NFL 2k series back..

Im gonna buy both for PS2. I thought about not getting 2k3 because I loved madden last year for ps2 but found NFL2k2 just too easy even on the hardest levels. This year, the franchise mode for 2k3 looks sweet!!!!! Thats what Im in it for, franchise play. I love playing 10 or 15 years worth of football, and Im loving some of the features 2k3 has. Now I just need to find somebody who has real rosters for Sega's NCAA2k3 and can send me some draft classes for NFL2k3 via the sharkport.

OK, so can someone clear up what the online plans for 2K3 are for the PS2. Free online play may be the deciding factor for me.
Thanks!

The NFL2k series is always better than the Madden's. Especially if you get the Xbox version. EA just ports the game over from the PS2. Sega usually upgrades the graphics for the Xbox versions.

Gamespot has reviews up for both 2K3 and Madden. Looks like 2K3 comes out on top with a 9.1 vs. 8.6 for Madden on Xbox. This just reaffirms my intentions to get 2K3 this year.

I'm still trying to decide which one to buy. Can anyone confirm that 2K3 can be played online with the PS2 and that it's free?
Looking at the description at ebgames, it appears to be so, but that's hardly definitive.
