When did PC games switch to the smaller boxes?
I haven't bought a PC game in years, thanks to the internet (yeah, I'm evil
). However, I do make an exception for Blizzard - the last game I bought was Starcraft, and so I had to buy Warcraft III. I step into my local Electronics Boutique, and plop down $60 for the game. I see the box, and think, "Wow, this is pretty cool." I think this is a special box Blizzard made for their game, since there's 4 different box types. However, the next day, I'm in Wal-Mart, and I see that all the new PC games have this new type of box.
So I'm wondering, is this a fairly new change, or did it happen a year ago and I just never found out? I really think the new compact boxes are much cooler - the old boxes just wasted a lot of space, and it felt cheap since the boxes were so light.

The smalller boxes started at the beginning of this year with the Medal of Honor: Allied Assault release.

EA also changed ALICE to this format, I don't know if it was before or after Medal Of Honor: AA though, but the change is a good one. the boxes were a big on the size factor. glad they cut them down some.

I ordered Starcraft, Operation: Flashpoint, and SWAT 3 from www.gogamer.com, and all came in Amaray-type cases.

I was just wondering about this last week also. I haven't bought a PC game in forever, but went into a local EB to hunt for a specific game. I saw a row of small boxes, but skipped over them, because back in the day, only cheapy games and lame screensavers came in small boxes. Was surprised to find the game I was looking for in a small box.
Not sure how much I like them..
