Huzzah - NCAA 2003 has shipped!

Goodbye, my Video Game Talk friends - you see, I have just been informed by ebworld that my copy of NCAA 2003 has shipped and will be here tomorrow. So I won't have time to do things like post threads, eat, drink, shower, etc - you know, all the essentials.

Since it's only 3:00pm here at work, I still have 2 good hours to start setting up my sick day tomorrow. Hmm, I think I'm getting a fever. My throat's getting sore, too.......

Is there a review of this game anywhere? I hate buying games without reading at least a little bit about them first.

IGNcube has a review up. I'd love for an Insider to let me know what they said. They game the game an 8.9. That's good news because IGNcube is very stingy.

The review actually encompasses all the releases and is written by Aaron Boulding, who is the editor for IGN X-Box.

The only problem talked about in the review is when all 22 players are on screen at one time the game can hesitate on ALL platforms (including X-Box).

Basically it is a better version of last year's games with more mascots, more graphical upgrades and a good number of grudge matches in the game.

They were a wee bit stingy, especially for a game they are calling the current "best football game out there". The other bad thing they pointed out is that if you play a lot, you'll start to notice repetitive commentary from the announcers. Since I've yet to find a sports game that doesn't do this eventually (NBA Inside Drive was close) - it's a non-issue to me. Their final line was:

The only thing keeping this game from scoring closer to a perfect 10 is the equally inherent nature of sports games where there's always, repeat ALWAYS room for improvement...even when you're the best in your class, like NCAA Football 2003.

I believe today was the ship date, so stores should start getting them any day.

Merged threads.

I'm pretty jazzed about this one, too. I bought my PS2 because of their 2002 offering, and this one looks to be an improvement on an already mighty fine game.

Just wait until you come to Aggieland and experience the 12th Man.

I still haven't decided which one to get. PS2 or Xbox. Any ideas?

I hope they really turn the volume up on the Kyle Field crowd, and get the post-score music right. A custom intro for the team with them running by the senior boot line would be sweet, too, but I'm not holding my breath.

I re-ordered when they offered free next day air July 4th (I had originally done free 2nd day air). I was told by their customer service that their order status page is being revised, so don't pay attention to their site. Mine has said "suspend" all day, but when I called to make sure it wasn't a credit card issue - he assured me it had shipped.

If anyone wants to order straight from EA - they are offering free 2-3 day shipping on NCAA 2003 at their site if you use the code:

When's Sega's College Football 2K3 come out? I'm waiting to see reviews of both first.

I think the date for 2K3 is around August 7-8.

GO WITH THE XBOX MAN!!! Hard drive will save your replays and you won't need memory cards either.

Yep, the X-box is the system of choice for sports games as the Hard Drive is great given the way sports games hog memory.

I heard that the Cube version wasn't supposed to come out until August 1. Is that not true?

The only reason I would say PS2 over X-Box version is because the PS2 might have that option from last year where if you had a Sharkport you could import all the names of the players and the announcers would say most of the names.

With the X-Box not having any sort of way to download things onto the hard drive, this may be a reason to get the PS2 version. I'd love to pick up the X-Box version, but this option from last year is one of the reasons I even picked up NCAA 2002 along with Madden.

I'm picking up the PS2 version today. I decided to go with the PS2 version over the Xbox version for the ability to get updated rosters. In a week or so, there should be a roster file available for downloading with ALL player names in it. Using a Sharkport, I can transfer that file to my PS2 memory card. Worked great for NCAA 2002.

Check out the forums at www.maddenmania.com and www.operationsports.com.

Has anyone confirmed that the Xbox version will allow you to save replays? I thought the only difference was slightly better graphics.

I don't own a Sharkport, but I do like the idea of being able to download all the correct names to the game. I think I might wait a bit and see if someone finds a way to import them into the Xbox. I still have Morrowind to keep me busy for a few more weeks.
