Yes trigger, I know that mods do more than what I mentioned. That's why I said I can't stand playing "the same type of game" for long period of times.

For example, I don't want to play another platformer for a few months after beating Mario Sunshine.

So mods, even when they add new levels and stuff, aren't going to be the change of pace I need to keep my interest in gaming alive.

And I don't have a short attention span. I just get sick of doing the same crap all the time. Variety is the spice of life.

As for beating ED 3 times, it's a fairly short game. Beating it three times took me less time than beating Final Fantasy X once. And now I'm playing some NBA Street and Maximo, rather than something like Resident Evil or Zelda in order to mix it up. :D

Uh... well, that's why mods are great - you play a game and beat it - you move on to another type of game - then months later you want to revisit the first game, but you wish it was different - download a mod, BAM, new game for free... I don't see what your argument is. I think you're just arguing to argue. Is that what you're doing?

Josh H 07-21-02 04:26 PM

No, it's just to me there's already more games out there that look great than there is time for me to play. As a result, I would rather play a completely new game, rather than a modded version of an old game, even if it changes nearly everything.

Like I said, mods are a great feature and a huge advantage to PC gaming for those interest in them.

I'm just the odd ball that could care less about them and you arguing for the sake of arguing because you apparently think everyone should love mods.

You spend an awful lot of time here posting for someone who has too many games to play and not enough time.

That's fine - you don't have to like mods. It's just that every reason you've given for not liking mods is sillier than the last one... You seem to take a position on something before even knowing anything about it... you seem to love Mario Sunshine and are excited to finish it and you haven't even played it yet. You also hate mods and the mod community yet you know practically nothing about it. I was just trying to educate you. That's fine - I realize that you're stubborn. I don't care if everyone likes mods. Really - I don't.

Joshic 07-21-02 06:01 PM

I like games that have a good story. Generally PC games have better stories than console games. But that has changed in the past few years. Console games are getting to be a little more involved and immersive than they used to be. So these days I have slowly been shifting from a PC gamer to a console gamer.

I think I like games that are immersive because I like to lose myself in them. When I'm playing an immersive game, I lose myself in it and can forget about how much life sucks. I think these days gaming is the only reason why I'm still plugging away in life. Just living and waiting for the next big game release to make me happy for a little while longer.

So when DNF finally comes out - you'll be able to end it all because the wait will be over. ;)

Josh H 07-21-02 06:16 PM

Dude, I didn't say I hated mods or the mod community. I don't even see where you got that from.

Read my posts. I said they are a great feature and a huge advantage PCs have over consoles.

They just aren't a big deal to me as I'd rather move on to a total new game, rather than just ad new faatures to an old one.

And yes I've been posting and playing games a ton this summer as I'm not doing jack *****. I just finished my undergrad and I'm moving to the DC area for Grad school in a few weeks. I haven't worked a day since early May as I decided to do nothing but chill out this summer after having very little free time for 4 years, especially since I'll probably have very little free time again come August.

Mitsurugi 07-21-02 06:19 PM

Mods are cool. I remember playing Half Life about 2yrs ago in school. I download a lot of skins and those tage then copied them to the approate pcs. It was funny playing as a smurf, darth vador, yoda, spawn, hitler, etc. Then I downloded some WWII mod. It was awsome. YOu choose to be an american or german. After so many kills your rank would go up and could choose better weapons. The Omaha beach was fun. Well not if you first started in the boat.;)
Thats just one of many mods available for that game.

Ever hear of Counterstrike or Day of Defeat?
Maybe you should just stick to what you know.

Josh H 07-21-02 06:22 PM

Oops, forgot the Mario Sunshine comment.

I can't wait to play and finish Mario because the Mario series is the main reason I've stayed in gaming this long. Every game in the main series has became my all time favorite game after playing it. Given the history, I expect the same from Mario Sunshine.

Could I be dissapointed in it? Sure. Is it likely? Not really as I loved Mario 64 and this looks to be a greatly improved version of that.

I can't wait to devote all my gaming time to it and get all the shines and whatever else there is to do in the game.

I don't think he'll understand. He doesn't even like First Person Shooters I don't think, and most of the mods we are talking about relate to that genre. It seems like his favorite style of game is Mario platformer and once he's done with it, he's ready to move on. He doesn't want someone to come along and change the Mario game he just played giving him new "shines" to get or whatever... he wants Nintendo to make a completely new and different game using the same plumber and the same characters and the same moves and sounds and new and exciting challenges that are more or less the same as the ones from previous editions of the game and improved graphics although graphics aren't important to him. I could be completely wrong of course, but that seems to be the position he's taking on this whole thing.

Josh H 07-21-02 06:36 PM

Jolt, wasting your time replying to me as I can't see it except when people quote you.

Trigger, exactly, most of the good mods are for FPS, which I don't play, so that's a big reason mods aren't a big deal for me.

But to repeat it for the hundred time to get it thorugh your thick skull. MODS ARE GREAT. They're a great feature for those interested in them.

The Mario comments are stupid. You say you don't like the series and probably haven't played in since the SNES. The series has went through a lot of changes.

No, I don't want a mod with more shines for Mario sunshine. I also don't really want another mario game this generation, unless they change the gameplay totally. One mario game a generation is enough.

SpacemanSpiff 07-21-02 06:36 PM

ive only played CS a few times, but i am going to stay away from it, ive played ghost recon and the sof2 beta test too obessively to even think about touching that, i have work for christ sakes

hey guys, just imagine when that star wars mmorpg comes out (if its good!) life will be over as we can imagine it

hmm jedi or sith? bounty hunter or pilot

Replying to you has always been a waste of time. How is this any different?

Watch it - you're treading on thin ice. Look - I've played Mario 64 and most of the ones before that including one for gameboy. I hate them. The series has gone though alot of changes - it still sucks imho. I wouldn't like it if it was demons eating strippers or whatever else you probably think I like Mr. Assumption Junction. Dude - you said "mods don't interest me much" and you've been giving reasons why, so I've been giving valid responses to counter those reasons. That's what a discussion is about - not saying I have a thick skull or saying my comments are stupid. Stop before the mods (forum mods) come in and lay down the smack.

Oh you missed his "To appease Joltaddict" thread after his threadcrap. But hes been suspended before I dont think it will phase him in the least.

But I shouldnt even be here since hes blocking me now.

SpacemanSpiff 07-21-02 07:15 PM

damn blocking? suspensions?

damn you guys take these stupid arguments too seriously

It's an entirely different game - literally for free. As someone with a short-attention span, you should be able to appreciate that.

Thus you can make a game like half-life into Counter Strike and a WWII game Day of Defeat.

they are different games with different missions and gameplay. the mod community is always working on new idea's. and it's well worth it to keep up.

Ok, buddy, right there. that's pretty lame to say. if you want to discuss things, discuss them and don't be a wimp and block them only to turn around 2 seconds later and say "LA LA LA, I CAN'T HEAR YOU LA LA LA LA"

Your comment about FPS's boring after some time should realize your saying you get tired of the same thing over and over again yet you will play mario series which has been the same over and over again. redundent to me. then again, maybe your not even able to see this because you ignored me to.

Good way to keep your eyes closed to the world.

My suggestion would be Jedi Knight II. :) very nicely done FPS/ dueling game.

You and joltaddict might want to check some of your comments in this thread as well. He's not the only one on thin ice right now.

And we put the ignore feature in for anyone who wants to use it. Calling people lame for enabling it isn't welcome either.

This thread has become a little too heated, so I'm closing it. Feel free to start a part two if you want to continue the ontopic discussions. But leave the condecension, dismissive attitudes, preaching and borderline personal attacks out of it, or we're going to have to start issuing suspensions.

Closing thread.
