I'm more of a PC gamer I guess, but I am getting back into console gaming. I've never liked Nintendo's original games because they were all the same and they were always seen as the big corporate whore that crushed smaller companies and stole ideas and made it so they could make money off proprietary hardware - the cartridge thing for example - they always used to insist on making the cartridges themselves so they could control the prices and such and this made developers angry... now that they aren't top dog, things have changed - but looking at their lineup at E3 I can say that none of it interested me. Gameplay was also an issue of course and none of their games have ever appealed to me - Long ago they were all just the same game recycled with different cutesy characters and then later when games became more sophisticated, they all seemed to lack substance that other games had. I'm not into the Final Fantasy thing because it lacked gameplay and turn-based combat was so unappealing to me. Also, the whole hit points thing from the Dungeons and Dragons paper RPGs never appealed to me. Metal Gear Solid was horrible - the story was the dumbest thing ever. The gameplay was cool, but having to sit through a 10 minute conversation every 2 minutes of gameplay wasn't worth the effort... it was more like a movie than a game and the movie wasn't any good. I don't like sports games because I'm not into sports (except soccer). I know you guys didn't expect an answer and were just goofing on me a little, but I figured I might as well respond. :) |
I hate the Final Fantasy series. With a passion that you'll never know. I think I might enjoy playing Superman 64 for 3 hours more than just 30 minutes of that horrific crap. I also hate the Metal Gear Solid series, which I've never been impressed with, and which I mostly deemed as downright dumb like the "Escape" movies and characters that inspired them (I want to thank Konami for confirming this with "Snakeboarding"). I don't HATE Halo, but I definitely don't really like it, and would never spend more than $20 on it (I probably wouldn't spend $10 on it). I share the exact same thoughts for DOA3, but I'd actually gladly shell out $20 for that. The Jet Grind series sucks as do all Sonics from the 32 bit era up. Sega games period pretty much suck to me these days. More when it comes to mind...

WOW!! I'm surprised no one brought up Shenmue! I was real hyped up for this title for DC, when then I played and it was just...okay. I am in no real rush to get the second chapter, overall this game is way too boring.
All talk, not enough game, no action, and little fighting, also very long uninteresting movies. I don't mind long movies like in MSG: SOL, because they are cool, action packed, and purposeful. In Shenmue they were movies about talking, and lovin', and workin' BLAH! |
Originally posted by ReDsOx5048 WOW!! I'm surprised no one brought up Shenmue! Originally posted by joshhinkle I also despise Jet Grind Radio/Future and Shemue. Though I almost didn't mention either game as they don't really fit the bill as neither of them were extremely popular. Both were basically niche market/cult titles, that have loyal fans and large groups of people that hate them both. |
Just wondering, is FF6 the same as FF3?
|
In the USA, FF6 was released as FF3.

Oh yeah I forgot about Shenmue. Yeah if I quit my job and did nothing but play that game maybe I could finish it. I understand depth...but jeez!!!

Here's my 2 cents...on games that I OWN. Not to say that everything is bad about these games.
PS2 - GTA3, game was great and addicting playing through the story mode missions for the first time. But once you do the firetruck/taxi/police missions/find packages it gets old. I now have no interest in GTA3, maybe vice city will change this. I wouldn't say it's overrated, because it delivered an awesome gaming experience, I just disagree with the game's supposed excellent replay value. PS2 - MGS2. Man was this ever a let down. I couldn't stand playing for about five minutes, and then watching a HUGE cinematic scene. Not even Final Fantasies have this many cinemas in them it seems like. And the fact that you play as Raiden and NOT Solid Snake...another letdown. PS2 - Final Fantasy X. GREAT GAME. Only complaint is the absence of a "world map." Loved the characters, story, graphics. I guess my major complaint would be about the new Bruce Lee game for X-Box. I will soon be picking up an X-Box, and it really p*sses me off that a BRUCE LEE game is so horrible. |
I once liked Halo. That is... until my friends ruined it.
You know the type. The guys that will never get laid, the ones that gather in large groups nearly every day of the week and do NOTHING except play video games. I like games and all, but jeez. Anyway, yeah I once liked Halo. Single-player was fun, but I really thought multi-player was bland. I don't care if I played it with the 1985 Chicago Bears, it still wouldn't be exciting. Metal Gear Solid 2 was ridiculous. I didn't mind Raiden either, simply because he did a cool flip. If there had been no story, I would have loved the game. To reflect my strange sense of humor, the best part of the entire thing was when Snake talked to the black guy before Ninja showed up, and the black guy said something about the "la-le-lu-li-lo". That line caused my friend and I to double over in laughter, then again, we do that at almost everything. I also found Grand Theft Auto 3 to be overrated. Who knows, maybe it is just because I'm bitter. You see, I bought my PS2 for that game, and never managed to get it. I traded my PS2 off, then got one back to once again get GTA3, and to this date I still haven't bought it. Maybe I should "save" my money for once instead of blowing it all on random things. Annnddddd... I was extremely disappointed with Twisted Metal: Black. Twisted Metal 2 was my favorite PSX game, and I hoped this new rendition would bring back the series. Too bad. It had an awesome theme song, that being "Paint It Black", yet the game itself was too... frickin'... hard. |
mgs2 was a huge disappointment.

How about multiplayer in general? I've tried it and don't really see what the big deal is. I prefer single player by a long shot.
I might enjoy multiplayer in a football or baseball related game (haven't tried it yet) but it gets old fast in games such as MOHAA and RTCW....... |
Old Mario games. I can't stand them. Super Mario Bros 1, 2, 3. I was never able to jump right. The whole 1 hit and you die thing pissed me off too. I was a Sonic fan as you could play that game as reckless as you wanted or as carefully as you wanted.
Of current games I'd have to say MGS2 was dissappointing. I played for 5 minutes and got rid of it, it was just boring. |
I'm with you there JaxComet. I prefer single player games too, in most cases. The only multiplayer games I enjoy are sports and fighting games.
One of the reasons I play games is to take a break from "the real world," so playing multiplayer makes that harder to do than playing single player. Plus if I'm having friends over, or going to a friends place, we usually find something better to do than play video games. |
You could get hit more than once and not die in all three of the Mario games, as long as you were Super Mario or Fireball Mario, or whatever powers.
Being small Mario was the same as being Sonic and not having any rings. |

Given how easy the first level was in all those games, you must not have given them much of a chance, or truly suck at video games. ;)

My personal dislikes include:
1. Jet Grind etc. 2. Super Smash Bros Melee (Nobody has yet to say this? Maybe it's me. :( Yes, I've played multiplayer, my friends play all the time, just seems like button smashing to me. I sold my copy a few weeks after I got it.) 3. Any Resident Evil Games, I don't care how good they look, just a pain in the @ss to control 4. Any snowboarding games SSX, SSX Tricky etc. |
Originally posted by e_hartnett Well, judging by the fact that he gave MGS2 5 minutes (you didn't even have a gun yet!!), I'd say the games were probably not given much of a chance. |
My vote goes to Halo. I played that game at my friend's place and it's just so boring to me. A lot of people say it's the best game for the X-BOX, and that's what stops me from getting an X-BOX.

Bluesky,
I also played HALO once at a friends and discounted it.. Picked it up when I got an Xbox and gave it a second chance.. Once I got the controls down by playing the 1st level, it turned out to be one of the best games I have ever played... no joke. Give it a second chance, play the single player game 1 or 2 player co-op, and go through a level or two. you'll love it. |
