All real time strategy games (Starcraft, Warcraft, etc.). The whole genre sucks. Slow and boring IMO.
Ditto for sim games like Simcity, The Sims, Roallercoaster Tycoon. I also hate "PC/American" RPGs like Morrowind. Basically I just hate all PC type games. As for the consoles, I've yet to get the appeal of GTA3, it's good, but I don't like it as much as others seem to. Then again I've only played it for an hour or so at a friends house. I also despise Jet Grind Radio/Future and Shemue. |
dvdsteve2000: Allow me to retort about Halo :)
1. Theres a limited amount of weapons in the game and all are rendered almost useless in multiplayer. All you need to do is man a ghost or a tank and you can kill anyone no matter what weapon the may have. I played countless hours of this game with my friends out of boredom and only used the machine gun when I was on my way to getting into a vehicle. (The plasma grenades were cool when stuck to people though) 2. The multiplayer is terrible. The camera is zoomed so far away and the graphics are so bland that everything mushes together and you cant see anyone running around. I dont see why anyone likes this game. It would have been semi-original had it come out 4 yrs ago on the PC like it was supposed to do. Luckily its the only think keeping the XBOX afloat or it would already be dead :) |

Morrowind (its an FPS RPG) Crash Bandicoot- don't know why I just can't stand the annoying character. |
Originally posted by Kellehair ... Chrono Cross Xenogears most of the FF games (I've played them all and FF6 was the only one I really liked) Add one for Vagrant Story. Xbox-Outlaw Golf. I would have put HALO, but I don't like FPS in general, so I am biased on that one.
Gamecube-Resident Evil. Control scheme blows. PS2-Tie-GTA3 and Final Fantasy X. Both were highly, highly overrated. PC-Diablo. Where is the fun in this? |
Interesting how many folks are reaming the Gamecube Resident Evil for it's control scheme, but letting the PSX version off the hook?

I can't stand counter-strike. I've been playing Half-life since it came out and enjoy the regular DM, Team Fortress, Science and Industry and Firearms. I've given a try of CS over about 5 different betas spread across a 1.5 years, and I just can't get into it. I really don't care for the gameplay, or the shear number of cheaters that kept coming up in servers.

Maybe you just don't like RPGs? Maybe you just don't like Square in general? Those are among my favorites, but then again I love RPGs. Add one for Vagrant Story. The environments and the weapon system just annoyed the hell out of me. I played for a few hours and just couldn't find a way to finish when I had brand new shiny Chrono Cross waiting for me.. |
Originally posted by Mister Beefhead Wow, you hate them yet you've played every single one?-eek- What are there, like 10?? |
Another vote for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. I'd never played any of the previous games in the series, so after having gone through most of the games considered to be the best for the PS2, I rented THPS3. My friends and I thought it was sooooo boring. Also Twisted Metal Black. That game was really lame too.

It's the newest RE games, so it's the first that pops to mind. 2. Maybe the people that mentioned the gamecube version never played any other version. 3. Gamecube bias. |
No, I hate the controls in Gamecube RE, as well as the controls in Playstation's RE... the control is basically all the same, so i think it goes without saying that they would dislike those controls too..
also, PSX Resident Evil games arent "extremely popular" at the moment, whereas RE for GAmecube is... And as for the HALO comments, it amazes me... I too was skeptic of HALO before I played it and even the first time I tried to play multiplayer at a friends, didnt like it becaues of the controls... when I bought the XBOX, everyone told me to get halo, so I did.. and it was amazing... It really got me back into videogames in a hardcore way... If you play the game starting at level 1 and just keep going, you wont be able to stop.. its an *amazing* experience, and not somethign to be missed.. i would have to say it is the closest I have came to the "perfect" game in terms of everything coming together... And the camera beeing too far zoomed in multiplayer? Not sure what you mean by this in a first person shooter, what camera? The vision you have when you are walking you mean? or the scope of the sniper? And whoever complaed about multiplayer, being able to kill all with the vehicles.. you must have played someone who really sucks, or people that really sucked.. as whenever someone is in a vehicle in the games I am playing (and that goes for me), they are usually snipered or blown up as they just give themselves away too easily.. and most people play indoor levels from my experience, with no vehicles... all in all, if you dont like HALO, you are just stupid. Just kidding of course. -Jim |
The camera is too zoomed out in Halo when in any vehicle, since it goes into 3rd person mode. Its just almost impossible to see anyone, anywhere. Everybody blends in until youre right next to them. And no, I didnt play bad people in Halo, I played with my friend and his brother who were, without a doubt, 2 of the best (if not THE best) Halo players on gamespy. They played about 5-6 hours a day, EVERY day. It was really sad :)

Anything Mario after the SNES (especially Mario 64) and any Final Fantasy games. I'm sure that'll freak some people out.
|
Definitely the Resident Evil series due to the already mentioned horrible control scheme. The Twisted Metal series and basically any wrestling games (of course I don't watch wrestling on tv either).

Infact, tomorrow, I'm preparing to play some SIXTEEN PLAYER Halo. I play at least 5-7 hours of eight player Halo once a week. So far, it hasn't gotten old. Try playing an eight player game of Capture the Flag on Blood Gulch or Sidewinder with instant respawn. That's a good (and long) time. It may be hard to see players in Halo sometimes, I agree. But that's why one is forced to use their radar system. Anyone who overlooks it is making a grave mistake. In short, I love Halo. A lot. A whole whole lot. Best game in a LONG time. |
Er.. I thought this was a "what games can you not stand" not a "defend the game you love" thread.
One extremely popular game I think we can all agree sucks is Deer Hunter. |
There's not much sense in arguing over peoples choices. Everyone has their own tastes and opinions. Even games that are nearly universally considered to be great (like Halo) are going to be disliked by some.

DOA series. All graphics, very little substance.
Smackdown series. The dumbed down version of Toukon Restudan. This series rewards cheap gameplay and button mashing. The fastest masher wins. Perfect Dark. Could the multiplayer have more slowdown or dumber weapons? NHL Hitz, NFL Blitz Ok fun for awhile, but after time these games are just plain stupid. Mario, Sonic, platformers. I just don't like them anymore, they are not my cup of tea... |
Originally posted by diacritic True, but inadvetantly this has become a console bashing thread. Isn't it strange that most games that are hated also happen to be the flagship games of the respective consoles: Halo, DOA 3 (Xbox); Mario, Zelda, RE (GCN); FFX, GTA3 (PS2)? I think GTA3 is overrated, but I own a PS2. The DOA series has never been a favorite among hardcore fighting games as its basically a tech demo. Great graphics, shallow gameplay. Especially in the one player mode. RE has always been a love hate game, mainly due to the control scheme. FFX, which I loved, is also a love hate game. It's very linear for an RPG, and at times more like an interactive movie than a game. Halo, Zelda, and Mario are more difficult to explain, as they are nearly universally loved. All I can say there is different strokes for different folks. |
Max Payne
a total one-trick-pony in an average game at best It reminds me of Duke-Nuke'um, which I also hated and people loved (no explaination). |
