Mario Universe
A new, original Mario game for GBA? Check the link:

What do you think? Looks a little odd to me, but I'm hoping more info will surface soon.

No one else is reporting it. I'll have to see at least one credible source reporting it.
I'd rather they do a Mario RPG or Mario Adventure thing with the engine. The opening shot of Peach looks bad.

This is just a random observation/thought.
Could the Gameboy logo have been placed after the previous trailer? Maybe the preview was for the gamecube and a gameboy preview just happened to be before it.

So is the general feeling here that it's a fake? Seems like a lot of trouble to go through for a hoax.
I too would like to see either another source reporting this, or some sort of confirmation that it's just a hoax.

i think it is real. first of all, as the camera moves around, the video always stays in the screen perfectly with the movements. second, as flashes go off in the room, the video also lights up accordingly. so that means this was in an actual room and not somebody pasting a video over it.
now, the actual screen it is on appears to be something fancy and lightweight, as it is hanging from a wire. so it's like some thin type of tv screen (plasma?). and the graphics are original and animated well and no other games look like it.
therefore, i must conclude that if it was fake the person had to be very good at animating and drawing, and owns an expensive plasma screen? now what kind of person would be that talented and rich and want to waste time doing some petty film clip that 99% of the gaming population will even see? hoaxes are usually done by regular people with too much free time on their hands, like a teenager. this person doesn't fit that description.
this game and video is real to me.
edit: oh and it's for gamecube, not gba.

Rubix: It's a good fake, but let's get real here, it's still a fake. For starters, it's clear this footage wasn't from E3 but a Japanese trade show. How can you tell? Listen carefully in the background and you can hear Japanese being announced very faintly. Thus it would have to be from Space World which was quite awhile ago. You're telling me that since then, it wasn't leaked until now? Ok let's say it was behind closed doors, Nintendo sure as hell wouldn't be letting video tape and photographs being taken like that if it's a controlled session behind closed doors. I've been to Nintendo's behind closed doors and private press showings before. That's just for starters.
Next let's address the screen. You need to rewatch it because that clearly isn't a plasma screen. For starters plasma screens are 16:9 ratio. This is a 4:3 display. It's clearly just a projection or LCD screen. If you look closer you will see that it is not hanging, but there is a frame around it. This would not be impossible for anyone to have or anyone to fake in their own house. All you need to do is make a simple frame out of cardboard paper.
It is easily possible for someone to paste a video on top of screen and match the movement with a camera that shakes. It'll take a little effort but anyone with Adobe Premiere and After Effects could do it if they knew how. However, I do believe that this is possibly actually being displayed on a screen. So how do you explain the footage? Simple work of photoshop, premiere, and a 3D program like Maya. Then you can add in sound from a trade show as background, and then layer in your sound effects.
I believe some of it was probably modeled in Maya and animated. Others like this shot:

Look like they took the animated Mario head from E3 or some place else and pasted on top of a mock body. Something clearly doesn't look right in that picture.
Another indicator is the woohoo sound effect. At first I thought it was just Mario, but look at the timing. It's well before the jump. Even then, why does it sound a lot like the woohoo from the end of this video?

Even if it's not supposed to be from Mario but the audience, why again does it sound exactly like it does in that video. Sure mario sounds similar, but that sounds spot on. Plus if you listen carefully in the Mario clip, you can faintly hear clapping starting like it does in the ign clip yet it's cut off and faded out before you can really hear it.
You assume way too much about what is needed to set up this hoax but it's clearly within the realm of anyone who has simple access to a computer, possibly a camera, and good software. There are a lot of things that just don't add up and this can easily be faked if you know how. Again, it's a good hoax, but it's still a hoax. The timing doesn't add up, the visuals don't add up, and there are just too many reasons to not believe it is real.

Yup, it's a hoax
Just to confirm the general consensus here, this video is indeed a hoax. The updated story is at Nintendojo. In other news, someone has way too much time on their hands, and should use their powers for good rather than evil.
Move along...nothing to see here.

yeah, i saw an extended version of this clip somewhere and if you freeze it at 19 seconds it has a message saying it is fake on it. and i also read that nintendo of japan said it was fake in a statement. it fooled me and i still can't believe some guy made that for fun. i wish it was a real game.
