Why does Gamespy use up 200MB RAM?
I just installed gamespy 3D to find good servers for CS and DoD, but it uses up 200MB of RAM and causes my HD to thrash even though I have 256MB. Because of this refreshes take forever. When closing the program, the window closes but the process still causes the HD to thrash for another 3 minutes or so.
Is this normal?

Gamespy 3D uses that much memory, because it is storing the game list database in memory. I find it very annoying when I refresh all servers. I don't think they wrote the client very well. Since Cstrike has the most servers on the net, a listing of all cstrike/dod servers will be humongous... which takes up large amounts of ram to store the data. If you Update all servers and wait for it to be done, then shut down GameSpy... you can open it again and it will have the listing, but with normal memory usage. You'll have to have the listing saved before closing it. You can set the configuration to auto-save the list upon closing.

You ought to try the All-Seeing Eye... it's a much smaller server browser that probably supports those games.
