Japansese PS2 not compatible with component cable?

Hi
I have a japanese version PS2 and today I purchased the original sony brand component cable from best buy. but my TV doesn't correctly display any game from my PS2 (works with my US Ps2 though). do you know why this is happening? thanks.

I think it's due to different cable standards. While both the US and Japan use NTSC for a video standard, the sets have different inputs. I think the Japanese component cable resembles a computer monitor cable and not a US component cable.

Both component video cables are the same for the Japanese and US system. What you need to do is go into the setup screen of the system bios and change it from RGB to Component Video.
