PS One games on PS@?

May be a dumb question, but can you play PS1 games on a PS2 console? If that is true, why would anyone not go with PS2 over XBOX, just based on the number of available games?

About 99% of PlayStation games can be played on PS2. A list of incompatible games can be found at

well, graphically, the PS1 games arent all that great anymore now that the new systems are out. I suggest the PS2 for anyone with kids because there is a whole legion of titles out there for hte ps1 that are great stocking stuffers.

Basically, the ability to play ps1 games is just icing on the cake...but its not going to be a big reason why most people are buying a ps2
