All this and no region-free capabilities?
Is it really more dificult to make an all-region dvd player chip, than an all region video-game player? If you can do one, why not the other?

If you look at the $69 setup:
I don't know about the $79 one. Maybe 'macro reset' is what they mean? You'd think for $79 they'd be a little more clear.
These things sound like they could turn the X-Box into a one-stop pirated movies & software machine.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go buy an X-Box... (just kidding )

Agreed, I don't want to steal by playing illegal Xbox copies I just want region free. Guess I will have to get a DVD kit from Region 2 though to make it work.

I'm looking forward to this chip. I'm hoping that somewhere like lik-sang will offer pre-modded systems since my soldering skills aren't great. My main interest is to play original imports. Same reason I am getting my GC modded and buying a JPN PS2.

well, for $65 (less than the modchip), you can go to Circuit City and get an APEX DVD player and just enter the 4 digit reghion free code and poof, region free. Too bad its 100% useless to me, i suppose for people in different counties it might prove useful.

Do those newer Apex machines also do PAL -> NTSC conversion as well? www.nerd-out.com only has info on the 600A model. If so, that is definitely a possibility. Thanks for the tip!
