I played for a few more hours today and continue to be blown away. I have to disagree with jeff, and agree with the gamespot review -- the graphics are simply the best I've seen. I can't count the times that something has wowed me. "wow look at the moths around the light," "wow look at the lighting and shadows in this room" "wow look at the reflection on the floor/in the window, in the mirror" etc. Simply awesome.

The gameplay is great as well. The control is fine for me. It actually seems slightly more intuitive than in the original or Code Veronica (the only two in the series I've played all the way through).

As I said above, the atmosphere is great. It's eerie as hell. Sometimes you don't really want to go through a door, around the corner, or down the stairs, but you press on anyway to see what's there. There are so many scary places where you expect something to jump out, but nothing does, and then in places that seem calm, something happens. It really keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I just didn't get this from the original or code veronica. I'm not sure what the difference is. Maybe the lighting and overall realism? I'm not sure. All I know is that it's creeped me out several times, whereas the others didn't bother me very much.

Simpy an awesome game.

9.5/10 in my book. The only reason it loses a half point is for the "flaws" of the RE games. THe control works, but could be better, and the item system has always been lame IMO. It gets old going back and forth to boxes. Like a key is going to take as much space as a shotgun.

The graphics are amazing. At first I thought the backgrounds were a bit less crisp than they should be but after playing for a while I realized that every last little detail is discernable. I've stopped dead in my tracks literally dozens of times because some tiny detail caught me eye nd made me wonder what it was. Is that shadow the shape of a zombie?, did something just sparkle?, did that just move?! I usually don't care much about graphics but they really add a lot to a game like this.

I'm not claiming the graphics are bad. I just have a hard time raving about them since a large part of them are just 2d with no interaction. I guess, yes the game is the best I've seen, but I think that this current generation of games can go farther. Capcom did a great job.
