The GC will hit 12 million or close to it I bet with the powerhitters coming up. if the games start getting pushed back well...
PS2 was around 22 Million the last I saw. So I would guess 35 million with a price drop and some good games coming out this year.

More impressive, Sony projects revenue of 8.0 trillion yen for 2002/03. Last year Sony shipped 18 million PlayStation 2 units, which is expected to increase to 20 million in 2002/2003. It makes it much clearer. Sony plans to ship 20 million units in 2002/2003, in addition to the 18 million it has already shipped in 2001.

Those figures are wrong. If Sony shipped 18 million PS2s in 2001, it makes no sense that they would ship a mere *2 million* more in 2002. Heck, the sales of PS2 in Japan is already nearly 2 million this year alone!

But 38 million isn't correct either, since the PS2 came out in 2000. The 18 + 20 million do not account for the units shipped in 2000.

I guess Sony is figuring 38 million or 15 million more than the figures from GC and XBox combined.
By the way to keep on target with the original thread topic.
i do not think that Square will release a FF to the GC. only a GBA game or games.

So if Sony and Nintendo hit their own expectations, Nintendo would roughly have as many as 33% of GC's sold as the # of Sony PS2's.
So anyone that claims that companies are just going to ignore the GC because of a smaller user base ain't thinking to clearly.
When you factor in that many people in japan bought a PS2 just as a DVD player, the % is even better to support development.

For Square, Sony funded a lot of their $150 million movie, and then took most of the losses when the film tanked in the theater.
That's why Final Fantasy XI, which clearly would have benefitted a great deal from being on the XBox will be PS2 exclusive. Because Square owes Sony, and Sony has been very good to Square.
