PS2 and Projection TVs
We just bought a 57" Sony HDTV Projection Screen. I remember hearing that you can't use the PS2 on these types of tv (projection types), but I don't know why. Could someone please tell me? Or am I wrong?
It would be sooo nice to see it on the big screen.

The danger comes from Phosphor Burn-in of the sensitive CRT's of RPTV's
First Calibrate your screen with Video Essentials or Avia if you have not already
Lower your white level (Contrast) as low as you can tolerate for "games" to help reduce phorphor burn in and try not to play for more then a couple of hours at a time and then switch to another game or movie for awhile.
This should keep the risk to a minium.

Anyone know if this is true?

Projection tvs are more susceptible because the three cathode ray tubes (crts) run brighter (hotter) and the surface is smaller (5-9" diameter per tube).
Plasma flat screen displays also have the same burn-in issue, because plasma displays use phosphors like crt's.
I've been playing games on my 53" Sony XBR since the Saturn days and I just make a note to take breaks if I'm playing a game with static images on screen, like Halo's status bars. I've also adjusted my screen so the contrast & brightness are lower than the factory presets.
If you can find the Video Essentials dvd that is a good tool to use to tune your set.

Cool, thanks for the reply.
I also have video essentials and my brightness/contrast levels are pretty low (well, not low as in bad).
What i wonder is, how much of a "break" do you need to take. I am never playing games that long on my 57 inch tv, so its not a big issue, but is just changing the input from game to television good enough? You dig what i'm saying? Is that 1 sec of non-static image good enough to prevent a burn in?

I was not happy with myself. I should have got it. the new price was 2855 I think. maybe you could check at best buy and if they have it for the 2855 you could at least get that pricematched at circuit city.
