For a fighter ... Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Revival ($19.99 most places)
Best game I have so far is Castlevania COTM ($19.99 most places, but I got mine for $14.88 by PM'ing the CC ad)
Stay away from Ready to Rumble 2 (although if you must have it I got it at Best Buy for $9.99)

The only sports game I've played on my GBA is Mario Golf for the GBC. It's pretty sweet.
I think you're playing the wrong genres though. The GBA is better for RPGs, action games, and platformers.
