XBox remote question
Can this control the music files? How is it in general? I wouldnt expect it to be as good as my stand alones but is it more than just functional?

It controls the music stuff and basically controls all the DVD stuff through a menu that appears on the DVD (it lacks buttons such as zoom, but you can zoom using the menu). However, if you wanted to get a good multi-region player, it converts PAL->NTSC, so getting that would let you play PAL region 2 discs (from the UK and Europe). Whichever region you get, it supposedly locks that region into your Xbox so you can't play other regions.

Most DVD-Rom drives made today have firmware imbedded that will only allow you to change the region coding on the drive 5 times, IIRC. This includes the initial setting.
The Xbox DVD remote locks the DVD-Rom to to the region the remote isprogrammed for. It's supposed to be permanent, but I have not seen confirmation of this yet.

Im not that concerned about the region. The NTSC/PAL capabilities are a bigger plus for me personally. My collection is mostly horror and exploitation flicks. A lot of what I want (like the asian splatterflicks) are available R0 but theyre PAL. An all region player would be nice of course but not a major factor for me. It would depend on the price of the solution. And I wouldnt do a hack.

I got it this weekend and Im pretty impressed. There were a few DVDs that my Sony DVD player would choke on, (like a scratched up Hellraiser II) and the Box played them perfectly. Id love it for the music playlists alone. Now I dont have to get CDs out of the cars or out of the GFs exercise room.
Now I can sit at my PC, blast my music and watch the Sixers at the same time.

Yeah I know that, but how well does it play PAL DVDs? Would it look as good on an American X-Box as it would on a European DVD player? Wouldn't there be any framing problems?
