Rant: Funcoland ... Do people really pay these prices!?!
So i go into funcoland today, and ask them where their old school gameboy carts were. She points me to this case, and i see 14.99, 19.99, 24.99 .... USED!!! Some of these games are over ten years old and they're charging -what i consider- huge amounts for them...USED! ... In the GBA area, i saw Advance-Wars and asked how much... Used: 34.99 .... 34.99!!! That's the cost for it NEW right next door at target, and they're selling it used for that.
I just wanted to blow off some steam. Anyone else hate this place?

do you all still have the stores called Funcoland in your areas?
oh yeah....i think they suck too...used prices for games that are about $5 max lower than a new price....no thanks

There are two stores in my area called "funcoland" ... no gamestop's here. Although they do have gamestop "brand" merchandise...
I wonder where a good place for used deals is... Funcoland obviously isn't. By the time people tack on inflated shipping rated to a 1 ounce gameboy game on EBay that ruins any deals there. Same with half.com .... What about EBgames? Babbages? do they sell used games?

Electronics Boutique, Babbages, Funcoland...all screw job places. Why pay $59.99 there for a playstation game when you can go to Wal-Mart and pay $39.99 for it? I go there for used games too. Last time I was there I was looking at the games and some stupid kid comes up and says..."(expleted deleted) Ya! I know what I'm gettin" and he picks up Final Fantasy 10 for....$69.99! The stupid idiot could've gone a mile down the road and payed $49.99 at Wal-Mart. Sorry...just feb up with dumb people

I know I'm probably going to get hated for this, but I do pay those prices. I have friends at the location I shop at. They hook me up with a discount here and there, and I even do the same for them at my store. I hardly shop there as it is, but they like me there. Believe me they understand the prices are high, but Im mearly speaking for the location I shop at.

But yeah, most of the employees know the prices are horible. When the girl said 34.99 for advance wars i go: "awwww, whaddya doing to me" ... and recoiled in pain.
She just went: "yeah i know"

I hate their prices too.
HOWEVER, they DO pay better than any other place when it comes to your used stuff.
Have you ever tried the "mom and pop" stores? They don't pay top dollar for used.
I bought PSX2 from them for around $135 after selling some used systems and games that were collecting dust in my closet.
I also recently sold my DREAMCAST for $40 @ Funcoland when every other store I tried only wanted to give me no more than $15 friggin dollars for the DREAMCAST!
I will sell to FUNCOLAND/BABBAGE'S but I rarely buy from them.

If I remember correctly, FuncoLand used to be a lot cheaper before GameStop bought it and before they had too many B&M stores. Back when they were just a newspaper catalogue, you could get some really good deals, especially on original NES games. Besides, let's face it everybody. Sometimes they have a game that, for the sake of playing it again, is worth just about any price (theoretically.)

I've picked up a deal or two there, but you really have to watch what you buy... picked up RE Code Veronica for DC recently, and an S-Video cable for the DC... but most of their stuff is very overpriced.

I sold my Dreamcast and about 5 games at Funcoland for about $100 bucks. I think they only gave me $25 for the DC itself. Ended up getting my PS2 ($299.99) and GTA3 ($49.99) which I didn't think was too bad.
HOWEVER, they do overcharge on used stuff. As far as I'm concerned, used items should be 2/3 to 1/2 price from retail. When they are selling used games for $44.99, that's a joke.
What's even better is they sell used DVDs that are more expensive than buying a new one at Best Buy. That cracks me up.

Here in Austin, Gamefellas is pretty big and has decent prices on things. A dreamcast currently costs $39 there. However, my brother-in-law just bought one from Gamestop. Why? Because he was tired of waiting for Gamefellas to get one. Gamestop had several, because they pay better for them -- but they charge more. Strangely though, Gamefellas had a better, cheaper selection of controllers and games.
And, I can't figure out why there isn't a used DVD store that sells DVDs for less than $15.

I love funcoland. Picked up Salo Criterion for like $9.99 and sold it for almost $500 the next day on ebay and paid my rent. so they're still #1 in my book
some of there prices are normal and they do usually get games in 2-3 days before target/best buy. But the used PS2 games for $44.99, when they're selling the same game new for $49.99 doesn't make too much sense for me. What I don't get is how they decide to charge $54.99 on some xbox/ps2 games and there is a Target literally right next door where you can get the same game for no more than $49.99.

Furthermore....
They let you return a game you just bought within 7 days, no questions asked. Even if you didnt like it, which does happen a lot by the way (WWF RAW XBox is an example from the store I shop in almost all of the reservists returned it) and they dont seem to mind.

I don't know about funcoland, but I know the EBgames in My area price matches with all the other stores in town. They usually have the best selection, and I have found the prices on used games, equipment, and dvds to be very reasonable.

Perhaps, but the time and trouble going through HALF.com IS NOT worth it to me.
So it's better --for me-- to deal with Funcoland....
