Hey, I was thinking about picking up Medal of Honor for my computer, but before I did I wanted to know what you all thought. Is this the best in it's type?

If you want ultra-realism, Operation Flashpoint is the king of the hill.
However, I think MoH:AA is the champ when it comes to "standard" FPS war action.

Operation Flashpoint is pretty excellent but some missions are kinda boring. I don't really care for the squad command controls either. This game revolves around a fictional campain vs. a radical Russian general that invaded some small islands in the 80's.
Medal of Honor is pretty sweet. They only problem I have with the game is that it's over too soon. The game of course takes place in WW2 and I must say it does a very nice job presenting it.
And then there's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon. This is the game I recommend. The control is great, giving squad commands is a snap, missions are easy to understand, and the graphics and sound are unrivaled. My only gripe is that the friendly AI is pretty dumb. Seeing as how this was not the case in all the other Tom Clancy games maybe the developers did this so you're forced to control more of the action. This game revloves around a small Russian attack into Eastern Europe. As the Ghosts it is your job to slow them down until the Russian people can rise up.

I agree about Ghost Recon -- helluva game. The pending mission pack will include map-editing tools and stuff, so there's bound to be plenty of mods floating around pretty soon, too.

I aree with what all ready has been mentioned, MOh is great, operation flashpoint is better IMHO because of length and depth where MOH definatly has the edge in graphics and twitch gameplay. Soldier of Fortune is fun alhough it's only a month or two until SOF2 comes out which looks insane

I LOVE Operation Flashpoint. Visually, the scale of the game is without equal. You just cover HUGE distances, everything can be visited, and there is variety in the terrain (ie, it's *not* all just rocky hills).
Personally, I think it takes everything MOH does well - Atmosphere, variety of gameplay, scale of the missions, etc - and kicks it up a notch.
While MOH:AA's Omaha Beach assault was fun, I enjoy the "defending the oceanside town" mission early in OpFlash a lot more. It's not as limited as advance up the beach, get bangalores and kill snipers. Rather, it's got you running around the embankments, taking potshots from the hill, manning machine gun nests, going down to the beach to flank them if you want, falling back to the town, wondering why suddenly enemy are soldiers are stealthily moving in from the opposite direction, finding a dead soldier was carrying a Carl Gustav, and then the TANKS ROLL IN! Holy crap, it was so much fun. And your side's soldiers (of which there are many) are actually useful and manage to kill enemy.
2 caveats however:
1) You really need a good system to properly play this game. It's not a matter of pretty eye candy. Rather, you need high resolution and high visual quality for the gameplay because you're engaging targets at long distances with weak or no scopes and no auto-targetting. 800x600 with max visual quality is minimum. (for the record, I was running it on a p3-733 with voodoo3 at 640x480. While I got quite far in the game, I later tried it on a faster computer in a high resolution and I was stunned at how much more enjoyable and less fustrating the game was.)
2) It starts a bit slow and the controls take a while to get used to.

MOH:AA is a GREAT game. I finished single player, and am now ruining my life with the multiplayer version, which is great. One of my favorite games, and I've played a lot.
Operation Flashpoint is very good, too. Very real, but not as much fun as MOH:AA, in my opinion.
