FF 7 PS2 Remake?

I was looking through some old copies of the official Playstation magazine, and I found numerous articles mentioning Square plans to reamake FF7,8, and possibly 9 on the PS2 on a DVD. Did anything ever come of this or did it get scrapped? I'd love to see FF 7 running on the FF X engine.

I don't really see what those FF games would gain from an update. Graphics aren't all that important to an RPG IMO. For less than $20 each you can play all those games on your PS2 right now anyway.

No kidding, I don't see how porting them over could change them. the graphics are nice enough compared to other FF games.. If anything, they should do some of the older FF games... then again, the masses didn't get into the game intill 7 right and kellehair is right... RPG's dont need that graphics to stand. the game play and story should do that

I agree, the graphics aren't essential, but after playing through FF X, I have a hard time looking at the seemingly plain graphics of 7(although my biggest problem would adapting to the less intiutive battle system). As for the masses getting into FF at part 7, I guess that eyeroll is directed at me too. I had always heard of final fantasy games but I never tried one until 7 got such rave reviews. I'd played lots of RPGs before that(some of the D&D PC games and the Buck Rogers PC games) but FF 7 was my first Final Fantasy game. I agree though that it's kinda pointless to do it, but I was curious as I had never heard of this until I stumped upon it in these issues from 3/01 and 4/01.

the rolleyes aren't directed to anyone. they are just my distaste that the masses didn't really like and looked differently at role playing games like d&d and video game rpg's. for that matter, a lot of people wouldn't even touch them because of the whole reading factor.

i am part of the masses. i started w/ FF7 on the PC. i never had a playstation so when it came out for the PC, i gave it a try. of course, i'd been playing PC type RPGs so i was also curious about what the japanese type RPGs were like...

well, lets just say that i was convinced! a lot! so i got FF8 on the PC too. but then PS2 came out and FF was enough reason (w/ GT3) for me to get it. i ended up buying a whole bunch of RPGs from FF7 to xenogears to lunars. i've played FF7 3 times now. and if they made an updated FF7, i'd buy it b/c i'll probably replay it later. and if it like $20 (wishful thinking), it's a no brainer.
