Resident Evil Gamecube remake gets 39/40 in Famitsu

Looks like this game will kick ass. I played it on the PSX years back and was thinking of passing on it. But the combo of great looking screens shots and this near-perfect score in the industries toughest game magazine have convinced me to pick this up.

Zombies: A Love Story
Japanese magazine Famitsu rates Biohazard GCN a near perfect score.

March 13, 2002 - The latest version of the Japanese magazine Famitsu Weekly has the review of Biohazard for Nintendo's next-generation console ......

Capcom's survival horror remake earned a near perfect score of 39 out of 40 (10, 9, 10 and 10) by the respected publication's staff. The title also garnered the coveted Platinum Award from Famitsu.

The GameCube Biohazard, called Resident Evil in the US, is promised to be nearly 70% changed in some fashion from the original title, which debuted on Sony's PlayStation console several years ago. Director Shinji Mikami, who hopes that the remake will bring the series back to its scary roots, has led the project. The title will ship in Japan on March 22 and in the US as early as April 30 of this year.

Whoop whoop.

I really wish RE 2 got this much of a make-over - that game was a friggin' beauty.

Some additional info to support the "70% changed" comment from above. In the article on www.planetgamecube.com one of the editors mentioned that the mansion configuration is suppposed to be pretty different. He said the items you use to solve puzzles and the plot will be the same, but much of the game will actually be "new."

I can't wait.

Nope. Only the first game is being remade for the Gamecube. RE2, RE3: Nemisis and RE: Code Veronica are just ports. Expect them to look like the Dreamcast versions. Code Veronica will likely look like the PS2 version, if the PS2 version was an improvement on the DC version. I only played CV on the DC so I don't know if the PS2 version looked better.

If the ports are at the very least high res and reasonably priced(I'm hoping that they're at most 29.99) I'll probably pick them up. If not you can always pick up the Dreamcast ports real cheap. Plus, they were like 19.99-29.99 when they came out.

That's almost and impossible score from Famistu. The game must be very good. Glad to see the Cube has another Killer App.

I'm only buying if it has Mario 64 style control. I HATE the RE control scheme. I don't know I just can't stand that rotate and run scheme. I want to point where I want to run. I know it's really my own fault that I don't let it grow on me, but it ruined Onimusha for me too. DAMN YOU CAPCOM!!!

When Capcom ported RE2 to the N64, they included a new control scheme...hopefully they'll continue the trend with their games for the Cube.
