Soul Calibur II: Discussion thread
Theres about four Big threads with tons of pictures. this is for the discussion.. so those threads are closed. ;) Here are the references so you can enjoy the glory of all the pictures and then talk about it....
Soul Calibur II Pictures Part 1 Soul Calibur II Pictures Part 2 Soul Calibur II Pictures Part 3 Soul Calibur II Pictures Part 4 Ok, now that those pictures are out of the way. whats your thoughts on it so far? what do you think of the graphics, I hear the 8-way walk has been revamped a bit.. thanks to andy for his help in this matter aswell. |
Question:
I never played Soul Calibur, but I did play Soul Edge on the Playstation. Is this the same lineage? In SoulEdge, each character had a path to finish to find a piece of something or other. In other words, there was a reason to play it in the single player capacity, rather than just with friends, which is really what Mortal Kombat was for. So is Soul Calibur II supposed to be like that too? Oh yeah, the screenshots look good too. Thanks Jack and others. stoolie |

Thanks Jack and others. stoolie the main interest to play as each character and to finish is well, they all had different stories, so you get to see the full soul calibur story. in Soul Calibur on DC and arcade, when you beat it with each character you got steps closer to unlocking all the secret characters with there own stories to them, aswell as tons and tons of secrets such as different maps, game art and the works. Soul Calibur is the sequel to Soul Edge, and well.. it takes that game play and takes it up about 100x's that in soul edge. I would say that Soul Calibur was the game I was playing on 3-d platform 90% of the times. its my choice as the best 3-D fighting game so far |
Jack, I don't mean to be mean, but I see those shots came from IGN. Why not just linkify where all the pictures are instead of putting the actual pictures on DVDTalk? I would think it would create a bit more of a bandwidth load on DVDTalk even though it is addressing the IGN server. Once again, I'm not trying to be mean.
I also think SC2 will not be as good as the original and anyone who hypes it up that much is going to be sorely disappointed. |
Jack,
Thanks for the refresher. I remember the map now in Soul Edge where you can unlock new places. AgtFox, Speaking to someone who didn't play SC, what reasons would you give for your opinion on SCII? I'm trying to decide whether to be excited about it or not. stoolie |

This thread strengthens the Soul of KnightLerxst
I can not friggin wait for this game. |

As for the pics, I didn't think about the IGN and paying thing, sorry for putting a stink up. I'm an Insider so I don't know what is and isn't locked. |

IGN only lets you see 4 pictures a DAY... a day.. the horror!! thats terrible. so I just posted all there pictures. :) saves that limit of 4 pictures per day. thats why I did it. :) so everyone could enjoy them without that four per day limit. |
I played Soul Caliber a few times in the arcade and liked it, but I prefer a controller to a joystick. What system is this being released for anyway? It looks amazing.

Thanks for the FYI,
I have an XBox so that's the only platform I was aware of :) |
I have a GC and XBOX so I guess I'll check the reviews when available to see which one is better.
|
Well the button set up for Cube and Xbox would be interesting since its four buttons only, I would assume, even though its huge and odd in your hands, the box's controller might be better for this..
|
Now that's a game that I cannot wait for! I hope it's better (replay value) than Dead or Alive 3. Now don't get me wrong... DOA3 is visually stunning, but without a human opponent.. It's getting a little boring!
|
if it follows the standard Soul Calibur single player quest mode and story mode, then it will be one hell of a single player game aswell as one bitching two player game
|
The arcade game itself is running on System 246, which is the PS2 hardware. As such, a PS2 port is obviously the easiest.
The game is supposedly going to be released simultaneously on all platforms, although this has not yet been confirmed. |
Hey Jack, the Gamecube has 7 buttons. L, R, Z, A, B, X, Y. :p.
I really cant wait much longer for this game. In order ot get my fix I've been playing SoulCalibur with my VGA box. (its too damn_sweet!). The pics really dont do this game any justice. If you have the chance do go to IGN, and download the trailer. I plan on picking up a PS2 when the price drops, so yes I will be owning both the PS2 version and the GameCube version. (Im just sick that way). Im going to continually bug FuncoLand until I get a solid release date. :D love & calibur zero |
Originally posted by zero Hey Jack, the Gamecube has 7 buttons. L, R, Z, A, B, X, Y. :p. yeah, but for a fighting game. the cube's controllers is pretty wacky. |
I'll agree with the statement that the GC controller is 'wacky' for fighters.
I'm really hoping that either Nintendo, or some third party company will release some new 'fighter controller' or something. I really loved SC, so I'll no doubt get SC2...but the normal cube controller may be a pain to use. Btw...anyone know if SC2 is gonna have as many hidden characters as the first one? I really liked 'Rock' and 'Yoshimisu'. |
pain sch'main. With Capcom VS SNK 2 being ported to the GC Capcom will no doubt make a proper controller for the Cube users. I think the GC controller is perfect for Calibur.:p It's all a matter of learning the game over again.
|
You gotta wonder what they were thinking when they created that foul "Z" button. Ugh.
|
the Z button is used to grapple in Smash Bros. , and is used to make your ship roll in Rouge Leader. :p
|
The Z trigger is no worse than the R1 or R triggler on the Dual Shock, N64, or SNES controllers. It just seems worse because the R and L triggers on the GCN controller are so comfortable to use. :D
The only problem I see with SC2 on the GCN controller is the D-pad, that thing is useless. The only way it will be playable with that is if they simplify the directional combinations required for moves, ala SMB:M, so that you can play with the analog stick. I think the button layout will be perfect as the buttons are much more accessible than the ones on the Dreamcast controller IMO. That said Capcom has hinted at putting out a fighting pad for the GCN with their first fighter, so this might be a moot point. If not maybe Namco will release a fighting pad for this game. Plus there are arcade sticks out there for those that prefer them to a controll pad for fighters. |
