Interesting how the guy seems completely ignorant of the many games that already do this.

This is a horrible horrible idea.
I can't stand product placement in movies already...and now they want to tread on my video games?

Unless there was some sort of point to it, or they passed the savings onto us buyers, then I'm definitely against this.

I don't see why anyone would be for it, unless the consumer benifited some.

What's that new Skittles game? Darkened Skye?

Personally, I won't rest until they add Joe Camel to the Super Smash Brothers line up!

As long as it doesnt get as bad as web advertising... like those damned new ads, the one where sh*t floats over the stuff on the screen, I cant stand that, give me banners anyday over that. Of all places, I was fiddling around Britannica.com and even there, I had some sort of floating balls of blue crap floating on the screen, it made me sick, how can they expect me to buy a product when they force it on me.

Um, I'd hate to see modern products in fantasy environments. I'd much rather pay more for the game than see ads everytime I turn around. Though I can see the big games like EQ and AC doing something like this, it's not like people role-play there anyway... heh, then they can offer a $5 a month fee to remove the ads.

This does seem like a bad idea, but it's not like we don't already have games with major advertisements. The factor for me is pervasiveness. For example, in Super Monkey Ball on the Gamecube, all the bananas have a Dole™ logo on them. This is fine with me. It's small, it's quiet, and it doesn't detract from the gameplay.

Potentially there could be whole commercials embedded within games like Final Fantasy or Resident Evil that are more cinematic. This would cross lines. For those of you who played Oddworld, remember that it had commercials and ads for it's in-game products like Soulstorm Brew. Imagine if that was replaced with Mountain Dew or some such. I'm sure someone will try it eventually.
