GameSpot gave it an 8.3, and IGN gave it an 8.2.

8.3 at Gamespot, 8.2 at IGN, 9.0 at OXM...
Sounds to me like a good game, and a great one if you are a big fan of the series! -Jim |
Heck, maybe it's better than Dead To Rights, then. But, like I said, reviews will be charitable to any game from a large publisher, as long as the game doesn't have glaring faults.
This game is coming at the beginning of a string of AAA holiday games, and it just doesn't seem like it's going to be even among the best five games to come out on Xbox in the next 12 weeks. If you own another platform as well as Xbox, I can't see a reason to get this, even if you're a huge Buffy fan. The early word on SOCOM is very promising, and everyone gushed over the import of Mario Sunshine. Both of these games are probably safer bets for more hours of higher quality gaming. And I certainly can't imagine buying an Xbox just for this game, especially if all of the better games on the platform didn't sell it to you. Especially since there could be another price drop between now and May if Xbox has a lackluster Christmas. |

SOCOM, Mario and Buffy are extremely different..
Realize, it is possible for someone to NOT want SOCOM or MARIO, and still want Buffy because they appreciate that type of game, or are HUGE buffy fans.. And it is also possible to not Want buffy and also not want SOCOM and also NOT WANT Mario!!! Thats super-mega-fantastic-WACKY!!!!! Xbox and a lackluster Christmas? Maybe Gamecube, but Xbox is projected to pull big this Christmas. -Jim |

Am I missing something? Why in the world did SOCOM, and online play as a whole, get brought into this thread?
In what alternate universe did a broadband-only PS2 military game become a viable alternative to a Xbox-exclusive tv-show-licensed single-player beat 'em up? I haven't seen this much spin since the 2000 election. |
Originally posted by Shawn Not in ScandalUMD-land! :D Nintendo is taking a safe road by waiting on the online, and releasing quality titles within their strongest franchises. I don't see a potential jackpot in it for them, but their strategy assures that they keep steadily building on their base. Plus, if GTA is as big this Christmas as it was last year, Sony will beat everyone again. Also, with EA Sports online exclusive to PS2, Sony is building a powerful counter-argument to the people Microsoft needs to be selling to. |

Originally posted by ScandalUMD Look, Xbox Live is a big risk any way you cut it. Either it pays off big or it fails spectacularly. If online is the next big thing, Microsoft could be in a very strong position going into 2003. But if many gamers aren't excited about online, then Microsoft could be sitting on a $2 billion network with no users, which would not be disasterous for a company the size of Microsoft, but certainly wouldn't be a good thing. I think it basically is that Scandal tries to turn any thread that might be pro-Xbox in some fashion (ie: Buffy is an Xbox exclusive, and *gasp* someone wants this game but doesnt have an Xbox) and turn it into an Xbox bashing thread in some fashion.
Thats my opinion at least on the matter. -Jim |

Thats my opinion at least on the matter. -Jim The only thing I bash is mediocrity, regardless of the platform. Mark of Kri is PS2 exclusive. I've got a PS2. And I complained that the reviews weren't doing enough to wave people off this painfully mediocre game. And people accused me of bashing Sony. I also loathe Eternal Darkness, which many Nintendo fans consider to be a major feather in the cap of the Gamecube. As it happens, I see the Xbox to have the most questionable long term viability, for reasons that I have stated, and to which no one has really responded. I point out that the Xbox is losing money, and people point repeatedly to Microsoft's "deep pockets." Which is a reasonable argument to an extent. After all, pride and "deep pockets" have kept Sony in the movie and music business when they'd be better off without those divisions. Xbox is a system that should be approached with reservations, from a consumer's standpoint, for reasons I won't restate so as not to sound like a broken record. Buffy, even in the most favorable terms, is not a game to buy this system for. If someone really likes the idea of Xbox live and wants to play Halo, I say go for it. If someone were asking if they should get Gamecube for Eternal Darkness, or even Resident Evil, I'd advise them against it if they weren't psyched for Mario. Sheesh. |

Originally posted by ScandalUMD I don't bash anything. If I were bashing, I'd be violating the DVDTalk terms of service. Originally posted by mr.snowmizer Considering the thread's question is either answered "yes" or "no", yet somehow you've led it to your stock answer of Xbox, and Xbox Live, viability, by way of a strange segue through PS2-related SOCOM, I think you're ready to take your place in the big leagues of Xbox bashing... that's right, Gaming Age. |
I happen to be one of those huge Buffy fans you guys are talking about. I'm going to go out and buy an Xbox JUST for this one game. I already have a Ps2 (love it) but I'm trading in my Gamecube for the Xbox.

Hey now, Gaming Age forum people don't really bash the X-Box, they simply bash the X-Box fanboys by exploiting the flaws in their arguments. That's the only reason it seems like there is harsh treatment towards the system. It really is aimed at their fanboys. Like did you see the raping DopeyFishX got for countless number of XBox related issues? It wasn't an attack against the XBox, just him.

Yes, I'm trading in my Gamecube for an Xbox. I am one of those rare people who hate Mario games. I was trying to hold out for Zelda, but I find the graphics to be disturbing. After the N64 I should have known better and avoided the gamecube like the plague. Nintendo just does not make games that appeal to me but I thought i'd give it a try. My mistake. Oh how I miss the Snes! Now that was a great console.
P.S.--Sorry all you Gamecube fans, thats just my personal taste. I hope you enjoy yours more than I enjoyed mine. |
The game is out now, by the way. Just picked mine up from EBX...

Wow, well this thread certainly went off course.
Buffy looks good, I'll be renting it though. Too bad PS2 owners :p |
