This game sounds exactly how State of Emergency is supposed to be like, high expectations and no long term gameplay.

Who is saying there's no long term gameplay to State of Emergency?

The revolution mode looks well fleshed-out, with different missions for each character, and the Chaos mode seems to offer a lot of old school timed destruction/high score gameplay. Gamespot has been comparing this to Smash TV and Rampage, and, all in all, State of Emergency seems to be geared toward strong gameplay, with most of the computing muscle going towards AI routines for the hundreds of characters in the levels. Also, Rockstar and Take 2 have been on something of a hot streak, and seem to be cherry picking quality, edgy games.

Check out the review from PSW magazine. They gave it a 7/10.

OK, enough off topic (Scandal, if you want to discuss SoE, let's do it in the SoE thread)

Can anyone tell me if this game has multiplayer modes?

No multi-player. One player only.

This game has nothing... only missions. They won't even let you drive around by yourself with no time limit if you want - let alone cruise around with someone else. The game screams for multiplayer though since it's cops vs robbers. Drag.

Hmm... Maybe they'll fix it up on a sequel. Could this title have been rushed at all?

My roommate picked this one up at lunch today, and Trigger's review is pretty spot on. This one is getting sold back very soon.

I do disagree with Trigger's review of the replay feature. It might be a 4.5 the first time you see it, but those stupid filters are flat out annoying. And defaulting to replay=yes? Poor choice in my book.

I will give them one thing though, the heat dissipation effects are pretty cool. Too bad they ruined them by using them all the time.

Rent it if you're curious, I know some people like this kind of thing and more power to you if you do, but if you're looking for something like GTA3 then keep looking.

I never saw this as a GTA3 killer, more like a Crazy Taxi-type game. Let's hope Sega's next Crazy Taxi game mops the floor with this game.

Well - the replay is a 4.5 at first, but after a few replays you get the point (I think I mentioned this) and it starts looking shabby - I mean it stops looking so much like an action movie and more like a screensaver. I agree with you on this stuff... I thought I had mentioned it. I'll have to re-read what I wrote when I'm not so tired... nite.

I had a friend pick up me a copy when he got his at EB a couple of days ago. I didn't get to play it until last night and man I wish that I hadn't opened it!! But since I did I'll give it a few more tries to prove itself.

Not is all lost, it seems to be a winner with my kids so as long as they like it I don't feel so bad.

This definately doesn't have an adult feel to it. It seems more like a "G" or "PG" rated GTA3. But what kills me is they had plenty of time to develope this game into a winner. Heck I heard about it when it was called "Double Steal" over a year ago and saw the teaser for it back in March of '01.

Like I said before, my kids love it but if you don't have kids then rent it first.

My assessment of this game has already been posted numerous times by other members. This game seriously needs to go back to the drawing board for some major tuning. The only target group I can see enjoying this game is a younger audience.

With reference to "Chase HQ" (mentioned in a previous post).....
I was hoping this game would be similar to Chase HQ the first time I read about Wreckless last month. This game is a disappointment, in my opinion. A huge disappointment.

I've had it now for 5 days, but it's getting returned today.

Centurion, when you say you're returning it do you mean trading it at a loss? What do you mean?

I'm still tempted at trading mine in at a loss cause if I hear that "Head under a Pillow" talking guy say, "Demolish the Laguna Cars" one more time, I'm gonna "trow" it in da trash.

I know it's Yakusa but it sounds like he's saying Laguna.

I played it today on a demo. The controls seem to suck. I really did enjoy running over all of the stuff on the side of the road though. The level I played was really dark, but it was pretty for all that is matters.

No, not at a loss. There is a Funcoland near me. It is their policy to accept opened returns within 7 days of purchase as long as the original receipt is presented. I got a refund for the entire cost this afternoon.
