What's New in PC Gaming...
PC games tend to get more or less ignored in this forum, but I wanted to start a discussion about what's on the horizon for PC Games. Those who have a fast enough PC have no doubt been playing around with Medal of Honor or Return to Castle Wolfenstein... But what's next?
It's almost pointless to have a release date list for PC games because it seems like PC game release dates are merely guesses rather than goals. So we can at the very least discuss what's in production now that might just blow our socks off in the near future...
Well, there's Mafia which looks like a Grand Theft Auto 3 type of experience but set in the days of Bonnie and Clyde or Al Capone or Prohibition. I have my eye on this one... I started another thread about it, but decided to just make an encompassing thread about PC games instead of a new thread for each game.
Next of course we have Duke Nukem Forever. Any PC gamer worth his salt has known about this one for a long time. I'd suggest going to fileplanet and downloading the latest trailer for it if you haven't watched a trailer in a year or so because the game has changed alot since the first trailer and this FPS will surely destroy all competition. As we all know, this one will be out "when it's done" - a phrase that is I'm sure getting on more than a few nerves.
Doom 3 - another enigma - shrouded in even more secrecy than DNF. Little is known about it except that it will likely sell a billion copies and kick more arse than there exists bubble gum in the world.
The Y Project (Click here for screenshots) looks like it will be a contender when it goes gold. Born of German ingenuity, this game wants to be everything from an RPG to an Action to an Adventure to a Strategy game. The premise sounds really cool. I'm anxious to check this one out.
Command & Conquer: Renegade - this is the FPS version of C&C. Who knows how good it'll be, but it's apparently gone gold and will likely hit shelves at the end of this month. I've never been a fan of C&C, but as a fan of FPS games, I'll probably eventually pick this up... not right away though.
Halo is of course due out in Spring of 2002 for the PC. Gamesdomain has a preview article up on it.
I'm skeptical about Hitman 2 because they are releasing it for multpile platforms all at once meaning that it'll suffer on the PC given the shortcomings of consoles that the game will have to cater to. We'll see though since the first game was fun - I imagine that at the very least they will have gotten more elaborate with the missions and locations. The graphics may or may not have a facelift. If not, that wouldn't be so bad because the original was pretty good looking. Perhaps this would work better as a console game anyway.
Soldier of Fortune 2 - whoo boy I'm excited for this one. Despite some discouraging whispers that the title will have the violence toned down a bit to be more 'realistic' - I think it will end up being even more visceral and disturbing and FUN! The screenshots I've seen have my mouth watering and there's even a few videos floating around if you look. The word is that this has been delayed until late Spring.
Unreal Tournament 2 will either suck or it will rock. The screenshots look absolutely beautiful (did you expect any less?) but the character models look silly in my opinion. But at least it's better than the bland characters in UT. However, it kinda reminds me of Quake 3. We'll see. No doubht this will be a popular title.
I don't know - there's a ton of other games, but I can't think of any more. I'm more of a FPS type of guy so games like Disciples 2 or the new Star Trek game or Ballistic are not something I'm interested in enough to make them sound interesting... oh - forgot to mention I'm Going In 2 and Serious Sam 2, but that's ok.
Anyone and everyone contribute some games you know about that are in production for the PC that will possibly rock (no matter what type of gameplay). The saddest part about all the games I mentioned is that 90% of them are sequels. Anybody know of a game that is "new territory" or "groundbreaking"?

Well I've been playing the beta test of this for a bit of time. I must say... if you at all enjoyed any of Halo and any other FPS, this is the game to get. the maps are huge, the battle field is very sweet, the characters and classes are something beyond belief. the weapons are nice and the tanks and choppers in this alone make it well worth its own.
this game is the way Multiplayer games will be played in the future. beyond CS team play. if you are at all any sort of Multiplayer person, this is the game to get.

j/k
Well - yeah - I'm into multiplayer stuff. I'll probably give this a shot. I have to figure out what I'm going to do about a PC before I buy any more PC games. The Alienware thing didn't quite work out as planned. Hopefully I'll be able to get it squared away.

This is a great year for PC gamers. The FPS crop is unbelievable. To balance that out though I'd love to see a console style RPG like last summer's Anachronox and an epic adventure game like The Longest Journey.

I'm interested to one degree or another in almost all the games you mentioned. Hopefully, they'll all be good, but surely some will not live up to expectations.
One title that I'm really looking forward to, but doesn't really fit in this thread, is the expansion pack to Ghost Recon, since I've been having a blast playing this game and it's mods.
And I really hope UT2 will rock. It's one of the few games I still play long after it was originally released.

I've been playing RTCW and I'll be playing MOH:AA on my P3 500 without too many problems, though it's disappointing having to turn off all the graphics. Heck, on my system, RTCW minus the better effects doesn't look as good as Deus Ex did, and yet it "lags" more. Load times are good, and not as frequent as DE, but the level loads take about the same amount of time.
my other main reqs are: 32mb TNT2, 384mb RAM.
Just split for MOH:AA with my friend with the $30 CC deal. Not sure if it'll be worth getting it for Xbox as well for the graphics or not. Wonder if it'll be online capable?

Unreal 2.
(not Unreal Tournament 2)
Made by Legend, makers of "Return to NaPali" and "The Wheel of Time". Great talented guys, some of the best atnosphere level designers out there. Made WoT a totaly revolutionary game (40 wepons that have the ability to combo on top of each other) I have no doubt that Unreal 2 will rock to no end.

Personally i'm excited for Freedom Force - nothing liking a game set in the silver age of comics... And i'm also morbidly curious about Star Trek Bridge Commander. While i absolutely love Star Trek all of the games have been terrible and this one definately looks like it will be terrible.... but i just feel driven to test it out like i have every other ST game

Not sure when it's coming out, but Warcraft III should rock. They've also got their MMORPG that they're developing. And speaking of MMPORG's, when's the Star Wars one rolling out?

I wonder if it's the same team and if that's where they started. Anyway - I was excited to get WOT when it came out. I bought it and installed it and played it for about 5 hours. Afterwards I felt a little disappointed. It just got really boring. I remember thinking it was a well made game though - I just didn't care much for the story or gameplay. It wasn't the game I don't think - it was me... that's just not my type of game. I think it was well made though and there were some really revolutionary features in it as you said. As for Unreal 2 - that's another one on my list of "impatiently waiting for" games.

Star Wars Galaxies is supposed to be out in the Winter, but if I were you I would be looking more foward to Jedi Knight 2. From people that have previewed it they've told me that you haven't seen an FPS like this before and if the finished product is done correctly it's a great sign for Doom 3 (the same developer is making both games, Raven Software).

Besides all the FPS games mentioned above. I am also looking forward to strategy games in 2002 like Warcarft III, Heros of Might & Magic IV, and Age of Wonders II.

Didn't see anyone mention it, so I thought I'd put in "Medal of Honor." Great graphics (Q3 engine), decent AI (will the bad guys ever stop coming around the corner one at a time?), intelligent missions, and a real sense of WWII action. This is the only game I have ever bought the day it came out, and (gasp!) paid full retail for. So far I'm not disappointed, as has been the case with so many other games I've tried. Now, when DNF finally makes it into my hot little hands, my gaming happiness will be complete.
