Enix Back on Board with Nintendo

From cube.ign:

In an interview translated by Core Magazine, Enix's president Keiji Honda-san explained that the company would be keeping a close eye on Nintendo's next-generation platform and in fact has plans to develop for it.
"We haven't decided whether or not to support Microsoft's Xbox," said Honda-san. "We plan to support the GameCube, specifically what titles and when they'll be released is being determined now. We're letting our producers and the will of the market dictate our development plans."
Excellent news, especially for the Japanese market where the DQ series is bigger than FF. I'm playing through DWVII right now, and even with the mediocre graphics I'm having a whole lot of fun with it.

So what games does Enix own? The name sounds familiar, but I can't remember what games it develops.

Dragon Warrior is bigger in Japan than the FF series. At least that's what I've heard -- I don't live in Japan. Enix also made Valkyrie Profile. Personally, I hated the game. A lot of people like it though.

They also released Lufia unless I am mistaken, that was one of the best SNES rpg series around.

They'll probably put the Dragon Quest Monsters games on GC, but the actual Dragon Quest games will likely stay PS2 exclusive.

I believe Enix has said in the past that they would keep the DQ series on the console with the largest userbase. As of right now, that's definitely the PS2. But, I don't think Enix enjoyed their experiences with the PSX, so maybe they want to try something new.

Lufia II was a great game. I'd love to a sequel to that on the Cube.

Hell yeah!! This is good news! I loved Dragon Warrior ever since the first one on the NES, I'm in the middle of Dragon Warrior 7 right now and its awesome!! It doesn't have any flashy graphics but its a solid title with incredibly classic music and a fun story.

Lufia (or Estopolis, which is what its called in Japan) was developed by Natsume, the same people who made Harvest Moon(also a cool series). A sequel did come out for the Game Boy Color called Lufia: The Legend Returns and I think they're making a new one for the GBA. I'd also like to see one on the cube.

Enix also made the sweet Actraiser series on the SNES, and Star Ocean which was also pretty good. I really want to see a sequel to Actaraiser if nothing else though. That would really make my day. Its so fun to be "god".

If the Gamecube could get the Dragon Warrior series it would all but assure the Cube's success in Japan. However, I doubt Enix would make it exclusive to the GC.

What are you basing that on? The fact that they sold 4 million copies of their PSX game? Or...?

What game was that?

Anyways, I don't think Valkyrie Profile sold that well. Also, they spent years making DW7 and it turned out to be very technically unimpressive.

Enix has always been with Nintendo since the beginning unlike Square. From NES, Gameboy, and SNES to Gameboy Color. Highly likely Enix will continue on the Gameboy Advance, the largest portable installment base, the system of choice for old-school RPGs.

Dragon Quest 7. It may have been "technically unimpressive", but it was the number one selling PSX game of all time in Japan.

The Japanese love gameplay over graphics and that is why an oldschool RPG like Dragon Quest 7 sold 4 million. It may look unimpressive, but its a great game and in many respects much better than the Final Fantasy series.

I'm not a graphics whore, not even close. I still play SNES games and I love my GBA. I doubt Enix was going for such craptaular graphics though.

DQ7 is also the highest-selling Dragon Quest *ever*. The previous highest sales in the series was the Nintendo/Famicom DQ3, with 3.8 million.

IMO, any system with Enix on board will sit well with me!
