Just played Castle Wolfenstein for the first time online.

Have to say things were kind of crazy and confusing, and I got killed frequently. Does it get any easier?

How do you guys play CS with all the cheaters? I got fed up with it and started playing Medal of Honor, but now I'm finding there are cheaters there too. Is nothing sacred anymore?

Lets just say that there are programs you can download that will allow you to auto-aim, see thru walls among other things. When I first started playing CS back when it was in beta 5, it was very fun since no one was cheating. But as CS got more popular, all the losers just had to ruin it.

Wolfinstine MP is pretty extreem.
I stick to the realistic assult type maps, like the beach head one in the Demo.

Gota keep your head down and use cover firing.
If you dont move as a team, your dead.

It does take practice.

Everything is very team oriented.. you need Medics/Engineers/LT's in a well balanced manner on your team for thier objective if not your team will suck and you will die. Played it for a month's but the newbies running drooling over the graphics and playing "Quake Style" with no teamwork got old for me and I sold the game and will get MOH if they release a cheat -fix.

I mean cum on how can a team have 30 Players that need to blow up the communications tower and have have 1 engineer?

CS is Cheat Fest 2000 and i'll never go back even though I luved the game.

That's the biggest reason I stick to single player mode. MoHAA is blowing me away. I don't know what multiplayer will be like but I'm sure it will go the way of the others. At this point though, I am just really enjoying the game and the gameplay in single player mode...

Yeah, it gets easier. Like with most other shooters, the two most important things are to learn the maps well and to circle-strafe. Also, burst fire your mp40/thompson if your target is far away, otherwise you're not going to hit him more than once or twice before you empty your clip.

As for not making noob mistakes, here's a few don'ts:

Don't be Lt. Rambo, who immediately after spawning, feeds himself two ammo packs and sprints off to take the whole enemy army alone. The only time you'll get ammo from this guy is by picking up his weapon after he dies. He lobs air strikes indiscriminately and usually kills as many of his own men as enemies.

Don't be noob Medic who's well meaning, but really needs more experience. He'll follow groups, but tends to stand in doorways or otherwise block the slow guys with the bazookas or gatling guns. He's nice enough to try to revive you, but he almost always gets killed before he can because he's using the mouse wheel to scroll through every item in his inventory to get to the syringe. Or, he's trying to stab you repeatedly with the syringe to no effect because he's standing up and can't quite get you (hint: crouch while administering the syringe).

Don't be Engineer "Me Too" who comes from the school of "if one is good, then two must be better." On those maps where you have to blow a door or two to get to your final target, don't plant a second bomb at any of those doors. One is plenty and the second one just delays the whole squad who has to wait for both bombs to explode to safely go through. The exception, of course, is the final target where a 2nd bomb can be good insurance against enemy diffusers.

Don't be Pvt. Pita. This needy soldier will alternately screams "Medic!" and "I need ammo!" on a constant basis. Sure, sometimes you need to call out more than once or twice to be heard over exploding air strikes and what not, but if no one has come to you by your third request, they're not coming at all.

Don't be the 4th sniper. Off hand, I can't think of any map where your team is well served by having more than 2 or 3 snipers. And really, sniping is one of those things where if you can't do it well, then go practice elsewhere. You're just taking up a slot that could otherwise be used for something actually useful.

The problem I have with wolfenstein 3d is that everyone looks the same to me and Im never sure who to kill. I ended up just trying to kill everybody. After about 5 games I went back to Quake 3 Rocket Arena (still the best MP game imo). I also just downloaded the Bid for Power Mod and it's pretty fun. It's like Dragon Ball Z with the Quake 3 engine

I tried playing last night and almost all the servers I tired connecting to required some plug in- an anticheat plug in. IT must be something new I haven't heard anything about it.

If I recall correctly, CW adopted PunkBuster to combat the cheats. Definately a good move on their part.

CS did have a cheater problem, but it has abated much. Cheating still happens, and on unregulated servers, it sucks. Play on admined servers. Punk buster was a start, but it's worthless. Other servers use Paladin or cheating death, and the players must run them on their PC to play in that server. This alone scares many would be cheaters. On top of that, there is server side software, which will scan you HD at the connect for cheats. The server also runs commands on your behalf trying to activate various cheats (there are hundreds). If either of these catchs you, you are banned. Now, if you were to make your own unique cheat, you could still cheat, but odds are that an admin will catch you in the act and ban that cheater. CS 1.4 will be released soon, and it is supposed to have alot of the anti-cheat stuff built in. Just play at a reputable server and you will be fine.

www.xlii.com is supposed to be the best, but I haven't tried it myself yet.

Yes, you will still see lots of cheating accusations, but they are mostly from newbies who can't admit that they suck. Even I get 6 headshots in one round, though it is rare.

I'm a newbie and I suck, but at least I don't call cheat whenever I get my arse handed to me. I tried playing last night and it took almost forever to find a server that wasn't full of cheats. The one I finally found banned my whole team(except me) and a few from the other team in a matter of minutes after finding cheats on their HD's. Why are so many people cheating if they just get booted or piss people off.

Also I was playing yesterday and the admin booted me for "spawn camping" All I was doing was sniping from a set of windows (starting out that way each round and then moving on to explore the level). I wasn't doing anything other than sniping. I know some people hate campers, but it's a teamwork game- a military game at that, and sniping is a component of an assult. That's what I was doing. Why is that so wrong? What's the Spawn part?

If I'm not mistaken, Spawn Camping is when you camp out right near where the players respawn after getting killied - thereby killing them again when they respawn, giving your team an "unfair advantage". IMO, if this is such a bad thing, the game designers should make it so that the other team cannot have access to the area in which players respawn (this happens occassionally on Wolfenstein, but there are way around that if you have enough people on your team).

I aggree that with camping and other stuff that if it was truelly wrong then the game designers would have taken it out. The thing is that there was no people respawning in that game. Anyways. When the ban was lifted I logged back in TKed the admin and said "Does that make you feel better?"
He said I'm banned for life from his server. Hmm that leaves what only 9,999 more servers to play on. I'm usually mot maliscious like that, but if you are an ass, then people are going to treat you like an ass. You have to welcome new players and explain things to them. If they can't live up to your expectations, then either change your expectations or don't host internet games. I really like CS, but there are just so many dicks playing it.

spawn camping and camping in general is usually frowned upon, especially in team oriented servers ( thought there are 2 teams, some are free for all rack up kills, and others are sacrifice yourself to plant the C4). If the guy banned you without giving you at least one warning, then he was a dick.

this program let's you see who is playing, as well as what mods for every server. Highly recommended http://www.udpsoft.com/eye

That makes two mistakes, one by each of you. TKing is rarely a good idea, especially for personal reasons and when you're TKing the admin. He may have been honestly mistaken about you spawn-camping, but that banning for life deal was just childish of him. It's sad, but too many 14 year-olds with more computer savvy than maturity get god complexes when they admin. Eh, like you said, 9,999 more servers to play on, just don't TK to "make a point", I'd kick you myself.

yeah I know TKing is lame. I only did it because he was an ass, and the majority of people playing not not asses. I just don't get the spawn camping if people were not spawning back to life. Is it the "buy camping" that he was accusing me of? That's when you hang out the home area so you can puchase more grenades or something. I wan't doing that either. Plus if the admin doesn't like it he can adjust the timer of purchasing. People have to start playing the game the way the designers meant it to be and stop whining about that crap.

That was my first and probably last TK (that was intentional- like I said before I suck).

Yeah, I would say that the best thing to do is find a good server that is vigilant and just try to stick with that/those servers.

Wolfenstein has a cool MP, but the factor that hurts it is those damn air strikes. on some maps it just the worse thing possible. and also the lack of team play you get at some places.

CS is one great game... if there was never any cheats. but atleast 1.4 is coming out soon which will have more anti-cheats protection on it. I dunno about you, But I can't see any reason to use the wall hack, auto aim and all those other cheats. they are just really lame.

But of course I see a lot of people accusing each other of cheating when it seems they just killed one another fairly just one person is being a baby about getitng hit with a bullet.

Also, when your death to kill ratio is way off like 3 kills and 18 deaths, please, for the love of god, don't think you have the right to talk shyte to anyone. I had a 24/10 kill ratio, which was a pretty good day for me with a deagle. and I killed this guy who had 3/18 and he started yapping about how that was just luck and I cheated and got a head shot. if your going talk shyte, make sure you can back it up, as I clearly went after him over and over again. hee hee

You cant really spawn camp in Wolfenstein. When the reinforcemetns arrive, they have a few seconds of invincibility and they can take out any enemies lingering around if they're good.

Some more tips:

-- When shooting, shoot in bursts like a poster above said. Also, it does help your accuracy if you're crouching down and shooting. Although, when you do this it makes it easier for them to hit you.

-- If you're a lieutenant, seek out the engineers and medics when the reinforcements arrive and give them some ammo. It only takes a few seconds.

-- Make sure there's always at least one medic on the team. The mere existence of one medic lets everyone on the team start out with 110 health.

-- If defending a certain room or small area (like in the warroom on the beach map), dont bunch together. Too many times, there will be three or four axis soldiers crowding around waiting for an ally to come in. All it takes is one rocket and bam, almost all of them are dead.

-- Like another poster said, dont be the lone gunner. Try to travel in groups. This not only gives you more protection (safety in numbers) but allows you to complete objectives easier.

-- Always reload your gun. I always see people walking into gunfights with only 10 or so rounds even though they have a full clip waiting to be reloaded. Whenever I kill someone, if I'm certain there arent others around, I automatically reload.

-- Finally, if you're a soldier and you run out of ammo, you can drop your gun and pick up another one on the ground. It comes in handy.
