Questions:

How do we get the Tank before doing "The Exchange" without using a cheat? We've tried getting in trouble enough to get the Amry after us and 3 or 4 Tanks show up, but as soon as we try to take one, the occupant jumps out and it's over for us with a "rattatatat". We were able to kill the Army dude a few times, but as soon as he exits the Tank, it becomes easier to destroy (it's indestructable when it's after you apparently - we launched about 12 rockets at it and it didn't even look scratched)... we found a good place to start trouble in the third city was in the 2 car garage by our save. Just hang out in there and launch rockets at passing FBI cars and helocopters and if you shoot the flamthrower through the wall, it'll kill everyone on the street. :)

In the second city, we found the best place to start trouble is the parking garage. Nobody comes in there except the first level and only if you tempt fate by walking up to the exit. Best thing to do is sit on the roof and pick off the choppers when they come and use the sniper rifle to pick off people in the street - or else just throw grenades off the roof into the street. It's a great place to make your escape when you have to - just do the super jump thing and flip a U and head to the paint and spray. :)

We really want to get into the Stadium too... :) Anyone been in there?

We also can't figure out a use for that P.O.S. wingless airplane. We can't get it to go anywhere. We've tried sitting on the bridge between the 2nd and 3rd city until the section goes up and then trying to fly from that high point. We don't really go any farther than a car would.

What about GTA4? - I want it now! :D

My favorite cars - In Portland, it would have to be the one you find at the gas station behind the Bombers place... hands down the best car in Portland I think. In the 2nd city, I like the SWAT truck and the Barracks Army truck for smashing stuff and the Yakuza Stinger for just cruising around. I hate all the trucks and SUVs though - they handle terribly. The third city doesn't seem to have much in the way of new, but I haven't explored it too much.

Where's all the packages? Anyone know what you get at your hideout for each 10 you find? Do you get anything else special for finding all of them? What do you get for the Vigilante mission thing and the firetruck mission thing and the ambulance and taxi mission things? Can you complete them or do you just get endless passengers and such... it was touched on in an earlier post, but I'd like more info on that. Anyone able to do the Hummer mission they plop in every city for you to do? You find a hummer and have to make it climb up a mountain and touch the checkpoints before the time runs up... I always flip it before I hit the first marker.

Want some easy money? Not so easy, but not dangerous... and once you get the hang of it it's a piece of cake... I seem to get 30,000 bucks every time I do the mission and I've been able to do it a bunch of times. Boost a Stallion while you're in front of the parking garage and you get to beat the clock to the checkpoints like the Hummer one, but this one is much easier. The last checkpoint has you doing the insane jump off the top of the garage so you can just turn around and boost another Stallion. Can't find a Stallion in front of the place? Find one elsewhere and drive it to the front of the garage and get out and get back in... simple as that. Easy money. Any other missions like this one that you just happen to boost the right type of car in front of the right place? Ever notice that the cars in the garage change depending on what type of car you're in?

Trigger: you can fly the plane... though the best I've done is 6 seconds. No real point to it other than that, just another thing to mess around with.

So far I cant find a way into the stadium. If I take a Cheetah and drive it up the stairs full speed, I almost make it over the gate but not quite.

I also cant wait for GTA4... I've heard it should have even better graphics, which would be cool. I was playing the Seattle track on Gran Turismo 3 yesterday, and thought it would be sweet if they could make the game look as good as that, but I doubt that's possible on the PS2.

I like the casino as my place for causing destruction... get up onto any of the walkways, then let loose with the rocket launcher! :)

I'd like to get all the unique stunt bonuses. Are they at specific jump locations or do you get them if you take any jump in just the right way? So far I've gotten bonuses taking a cheetah through that netcafe and out the 2nd floor, jumping over a building and some choppers at the airport (actually I just jumped over the building and into the choppers), and jumping off the parking garage.

I have noticed the cars will change a bit depending on what you're driving. If I'm in a Cheetah I see more cheetahs around me then when I'm driving something else. Same with some of the other sports cars.

I've tried getting into the stadium too... seems like a shame you cant get in there. I've tried with everything from the cheetah to the COACH BUS :)

Most i've done in the plane is 4 seconds. Doesn't really serve much purpose which is a shame.

I'll GTA4 based on the reputation of GTA3 alone. I hope there are more traditional mafia elemnts... Italian crime bosses/families...

Trigger 01-21-02 02:19 PM

If someone could address my other questions above and also tell me if there's a 4th city... We found this tunnel or bridge that's under construction in the 3rd city but we're wondering if you finish the game if you it will end up being repaired so you can go on it

ClarkKentKY 01-21-02 02:43 PM

I dont' beleive there is a 4th city. But then again i'm only at about 50% right now...

The tunnell you're talkign about is on the hill in shoreside vale near the damn. Perhaps it'll be address in GTA4...

einTier 01-21-02 04:02 PM

I don't think you can get in the stadium unless you can fly in there. I haven't gotten the dodo yet, but I did park a tank up near the gate. Standing on the turret, the height to clear the gate is easily jumpable. However, it doesn't seem possible. I "clear" the gate, but it's like there's an invisible wall that goes up above it.

Most general questions can be answered here:

I've been using the following walkthough/guide: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/f...t_auto_3_c.txt

seeyouauntie 01-21-02 06:39 PM

The tunnel is just like the stadium. You can't get in.

Just saw the ending to this game and it kicks ass!

bdshort 01-21-02 09:19 PM

I've flown the Dodo for about 34 seconds, before crashing into a building on Staunton Island ;) I'm sure once I get good at it I'll be able to keep it up indefinitely. To takeoff, hold down x to get going, then either push down on the d-pad or forward on the analong stick. Once you hear the plane rubbing on the ground and sparks fly up, release the stick/dpad, and you'll start going up. Then push forward on the stick or tap down on the dpad just enough so the plane is level. Make sure you're constantly holding x the entire time. Now you're flying! If it starts to nose down, dont do anything, it will come up if you're high enough. Once it noses back up and you have more altitude, push forward a bit or tap down on the d-pad to level out again. You can turn too but it's somewhat tricky, just use small movements. And you cant fly over any of the unique jump areas or you'll crash. And dont fly beyond the borders of the game or the game will crash ;)

To get the tanks to come out, you'll need to have opened the 3rd city to allow for 6 stars. After that, drive to the top of the parking garage (I'd use a fast car like a Cheetah) in the 2nd city and snipe some people below to get up to 3 stars. Then the choppers come, bazooka some down until you hit 5 stars. Then get in the car and drive out the garage, making a right into the street and then a quick right into the alley. This alley leads to the courtyard where the paint and spray is. Drive right up to the paint and spray but leave your car 1/2 out (but pointing in so you can jump in fast later). Shoot down another chopper or 2 and get up to 6 stars. Then you'll hear the tanks coming. Walk down the ramp and you should see some of them there. Then book back to your car, drive into the paint and spray, and you're set.

When you come out, the tank will be there and won't be after you. You can then try to jack it (the door is locked so you can't) and 2 soldiers with machine guns will come out. Waste them and the tank is yours, although you'll have 3 stars after killing the soldiers. Drive over a couple of bribes and you're set (or park it in the garage at Staunton Island and save to eliminate your wanted level).

Pretty harsh, huh! My jaw actually dropped. Loved it.

I saw a screen shot featuring an ice cream truck, but haven't run across one in the game ... what gives? Anyone find it?

If you do the secret missions in Portland (I think it's El Burro's missions), one of the missions will have a Mr. Whoopee (the ice cream truck). Also, if you do the Vigilante or Firefighter missions in Portland, you'll eventually come across one. It's the rarest vehicle in the game, and the Import/Export garage in Portland wants one.

The unique jumps are all over the city, but they are very specific. You'll have to jump certain ramps (or mounds of dirt) for certain distances to get credit. Jump them too slow, and you won't even trigger the slow motion effect, jump them too fast and you might not land where you're supposed to. Usually, they involve clearing some obstacle, like the building in Portland, or the semi trailers at the Portland Docks. There's one near Asuka's hideout in the second city that is hellishly difficult. You have to jump a patch of water, so if you go too slow, you'll land in the water, but the landing zone is very small and surrounded by water on three sides, so if you go off at an angle, or go too fast, you'll land in the water. It's the hardest unique jump I've found yet. I've still got to do all the ones in the third city.

Are you guys all being sarcastic about the ending? I thought it was pretty much a let-down. I mean - I get it - I know what he did, but I hardly think that's an ending. I would've liked to see something cool happen rather than what they showed... anyway - good game.

Really? I'm not too far into the game and when I did the Ice Cream mission I passed another Mr. Whoopee truck after I grabbed the one required for the mission.

If I had known it was rare, I would've taken one to the import/export garage.

I ordered the strategy guide for this game, but I don't feel guilty about it. I think this is one guide that's going to help me get a lot more out of the game (vs. just breezing through a game using the guide).

TaTTooD 01-25-02 09:21 AM

How do I get the BF Injection (the dune buggy) back?

I picked it up once by the projects in the 1st city where its supposed to be and then died, but now when I go back its never there. I sat there once for 24 gametime hours and it still never showed up. This is the only car I have left to get for the ChopShop in the 3rd city so any help is greatly appreciated. THanks.

I think that if you are driving the ice cream truck, then you tend to see more of them. I had long passed that particular mission and had not seen an ice cream truck since that mission. I then went through and did some firetruck missions where I eventually had to put out an ice cream truck on fire. Once I put the fire out and drove the ice cream truck around I saw a few more.

Edit: You may have to put out quite a few fires before you see the ice cream truck. I had put out 35 fires when I found mine. I've heard reports that it may take over 100 tries to find an ice cream truck.

I agree about the game guide issue. I had started a game without using a guide and found myself missing a lot of the little side quests and missions you can do. I started a new game using a guide off of www.gamefaqs.com and have had a lot more fun as a result.

einTier 01-25-02 11:31 AM

Where is the import/export garage in the third city? I've been trying to find it.

Here's how to get the BF Injection:
BF Injection - there is only one known place where this car can be found. Go to Hepburn Heights in Portland around 19:00 to 24:00, and it will be near the phone El Burro calls you on. You have to beat the "Sayonara Salvatore" mission before it appears.

I liked that it was understated. I liked hearing the news report voiceover ... thinking we were gonna just walk off into the sunset ... and the off-camera capper just fit the overall depravity of the game to me.

Then I actually enjoyed listening to the Lazzlo talk shows. Heh.

I think if you are in an area where something appears during certain hours it won't unless you walk away a bit to let it spawn...hope that makes sense.

Trigger: Yeah, the ending was short but I think it was fitting. Plus, the thing that happens during the credits was something that all my friends were like, it would be cool if the guy did this, five seconds before he did, so I thought that was cool.

Thank you both. I finally got it and completed the garage in the 3rd city :D

Hopefully this makes sense, but there is an L turn where you can drive across the area with the dam. (This is the city area you first get to if you take the bridge from Staunton. You pass the airport entrance and follow that road thats fairly long and has all trees on each side. Once you make the mandatory right turn and get to that light, you wanna make a left and start going uphill. You follow that road until you get to the dirt road that leads to across the dam. Follow the paved road to the right . There will be 1 or two mote turns but you wanna stay on that road. You wanna follow that until you make another sharp L turn right. Right before that turn there is a building on your right, you can pull in there and the garage door on the right is the one you want. You'll see the list of cars on the left of the door. Hope this helps.

Trigger 01-30-02 02:45 AM

So what's the Maibatsu Monstrosity look like? I wanted to drive one. :)

bdshort 01-30-02 11:49 AM

I just beat the game last night. Loved the ending! BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I still only have like 35% of the stuff you can do in the game complete, and even have a few of the phonebooth missions I can do, though so far the ones I can do have proven very hard. Also need to find most of the packages, do most of the unique jumps, and do all of the rampages. So I'll probably go back to the game now and then to try to finish all that.

Brian
