GTA3.....taken off the shelves???
I havent read any info about it being pulled, but i went to look for it 2 days ago and all the stores in my town (k-mart, target, best buy, wal-mart) had pulled it from there shelves. So i figured it might be just my stupid litle town. But i went over to the city and still had the same results. I ended up buying a used copy at video games etc. (which doesnt even work ) Is anyone else having this same problem? Was i just sleeping when it was announced? Thanks for any replies

I doubt very much it has been pulled nationwide as I have heard nothing about it. Also it was the top selling video game in the industry about 2 weeks ago. My last reason is that they are running commercials for it on WWF programming like crazy(including Monday 2 days ago). As I fast forward through the commercials with my TIVO, all I see are GTA3 ads. I haven't played it, but it is supposed to be a fantastic game.

Im located in central iowa. I know its not sold out because i asked the employees if they had any extra copies and they claimed they had to pull it do to "extreme violence". Best Buy had a big display in the store and that was gone also. Every place i asked said it was pulled off the shelves.

It may be store discretion as to what they stock and don't. It may just be a couple nervous store managers not wanting to offend anyone.
I've seen it around here in Austin several times over the last couple of weeks.
Might just want to hit up an online retailer and be done with it.

Here in Connecticut(home state of the anti video game violience advocate Joe Lieberman) I've not seen it on store shelves, but not because of a ban. It's just always sold out. The only place I've seen it is at Blockbuster for rental.

There might also be a local legislation preventing the sale of such items. I know in my hometown there was local legislation banning both the sale of alcohol and porn inside the city limits.
Which, of course, meant there was quite a "development" just outside the city limits.

I was beginning to think there was something to the ban rumor when I bought the last copy my local Circuit City had and wasn't able to find another copy there for a while. Also, I would go to my local Target and see only one or two copies of the game left.
However, last night I saw several copies at the said Target and I believe I've seen a copy at the Circuit City I mentioned. Also, this weekend there were several copies at the Best Buy in Raleigh.
I think it is just a popular title that is hard to keep in stock. That doesn't mean that indiviual retailers have decided not to stock the title though.

It's the top selling game right now and I think that was the reason for shortages. I've heard no fuss at all about this game from the media. It has a M rating, so parents should know to check before buying this for children. The government can't police ever aspect of our lives for us. Well not yet anyway.

But I thought the PS3 was coming out over this summer?
Flair - this game is not banned. Perhaps your local community doesn't prefer the game and it has been pulled, but as most people can attest, this game is either sold out, or on the shelf of their local retailer.

There have been rumors about this since the game came out. They're not true. What happened is that a game that they expected to be a niche game got great reviews and great word of mouth and sold a lot more than they expected.
Through Christmas, stores were simply sold out in a lot of places. Sales may have again been spurred recently, because this game swept the "game of the year" awards on all the major gaming websites. When PC-centric Gamespy gives their overall game of the year to a console game, it has to be impressive.
Wal Mart and the other discount chains may have pulled this game; in fact, I don't understand why they stocked it in the first place. I thought Wal Mart's policy was not to stock M rated games at all. These large stores have a harder time not selling to children and young teens, so they may decide to simply stop stocking a title that generates parental complaints, either at a store level or at a chain level.
Stores like EB and Best Buy, however, have no such policies, regarding M rated games, nor do any online retailers.

I have become a GTA3 widow. I sit here all alone on the computer as my husband eludes the police, hijacks airplanes and increases his virility with hookers. When he's not jacking cars he is wasting people with his bazooka. What is a girl to do?

But as far as GTA 3 goes, there was an article in the USA Today recently (you might be able to do a search at their web site and find it) about the game, and Rockstar explicitly stated that the game hasn't been banned or pulled here in the United States. I think if you're not finding it, either individual stores have made the decision to pull it, or it's just sold out due to the ongoing popularity.
