What do I need to get with a PS2?

I'm planning on picking up a PS2 fairly soon so I can play Grand Theft Auto 3 (and MGS2 and GT3A-spec)...

what accessories do I need? I need the s-video cable, but do I need a memory card or not?

Thanks

Brian

actually, if you're strapped for cash, i'd hold out on the second controller since out of the three games you've mentioned only one can use a second controller. of course, get the controller some time down the line, but you can definitely hold out on the second controller.

If there's a Costco nearby, they are selling a PS2 Bundle (PS2 system and controller, memory card, extra controller, and a game) for $399.

Also, Sony put out PS2's packed with GT3 for $329 for a while, which is a savings of about $20. I don't know if they're still selling it that way, though.

I would reccomend a memory card first and foremost as well as an S-Video cable if your TV supports S-Video(if it supports component, get the component cables). If you already have a PSX or PSone, you can use those controllers with PS2 games(granted the pressure sensitive button option in some games won't work) but it's a good stop gap solution until or if you don't decide to get another Dual Shock 2. Also, the multitap is a must if you want to do four player games. For me, I got the multitap, an additional dual shock 2, and I kept my two regular dual shocks from my PSX so I've already got my 4 controllers. Have fun!

my must buy list

try and find a GT3 PS2 pack- at 329 this will save you a few dollars. then buy a memory card(see if you can find a mad catz one since they were licensed and cheaper- they no longer have a license so make sure yours indicates it is a licensed one)otherwise buy a sony one.

then get a Sony remote if you think you will be using this for dvd playback. the remote comes with newer drivers that will improve dvd playback and it is also easier to use than the controllers.

get the games you want and wait on everything else
