FFX graphics issues on widescreen tv?

Hey all. I've been Playing Final Fantasy X and I've been experiencing some problems with the graphics.

I've got my PS2 hooked up to a 55in widescreen HDTV via component cables.

the problem is that the image occasionally gets fuzzy. The easiest way to describe it is a ghosting effect around characters and objects. This only happens randomly durring gameplay (not cut scenes)

I've checked all my connections and played other games so I'm confident that it's not my set up.

Anyone else experience any graphical issues with this game?

Well, we didn't test it on HDTV's ... sooooo hehehe.

I'm guessing you're just seeing Square's anti-aliasing trick really clearly. Something I noticed when playing the game each of the characters have like blurs around all their polygons to mask the aliases... Since you're using an HDTV (bastard!) I'm guessing you're just noticing them really sharply. Sound like that describes it?

I've been playing it on a 65" WS HDTV and I haven't noticed anything. I've only played it about 3 hours, and that was a week ago, but I don't remember seeing anything like what you describe. I'll post if I do.

I've seen this happen a couple of times in battle, and I'm playing on a 27" Wega. I've only noticed it happening when I cast a spell with Lulu, though.

This is the fault of the PS2 and its measly 4MB of Vram. To cut down on the jaggies that plague every PS2 game, developers find ways to fake anti-aliasing, but the PS2 has major problems with this due to Sony only putting 4MB of Vram in there. The AA techniques usually result in blurry edges. On a large TV these limitations become magnified.

The PS2 has a powerful emotion engine and 32MB of main memory, however that 4MB of Vram causes major bandwith problems not to mention how difficult it is to program for the two vector units.

There are several articles on the web discussing the difficulty of programing for the PS2 and the limitiations it has. The jaggies and occasional blurriness in games really doesn't bother me a whole lot on most PS2 games, but its safe to say the FFX would look a lot smoother and clearer on the Game Cube or Xbox.
