I started it today and I'm really impressed. I think it lives up to the Final Fantasy hype. I love the reduced random battles.
|
Short review: best game I've played in years.
|
Its good, as always they change a few aspects about the game to keep it fresh, but is definitely good! My vacation has been consumed playing that game.

I'm definitely disappointed. I can't help but feel this game has grabbed me by the wrist and pulling me straight to its next CGI sequence. It just feels like a Resident Evil game with a good old Final Fantasy combat system (with a few neat additions). The combat system is the best thing about this game. But in FF7, probably the best of the series, the combat system was the farthest thing from my mind. Because in FF7, you could go wherever you want, do whatever you want. I spent hours and hours doing things in FF7 that didn't progress the story at all - but I sure a lot of fun doing it; something I don't feel I can do at all in FFX. I have played for about 10 hours and I haven't done anything out of my own choice. As soon is it gets out of a CGI or a dialogue sequence. I have to run straight for five feet just watch another movie - this is no exaggeration in some parts of the game. I will stop going on about this. There are probably pretty good reasons why this thing keeps getting 9.5 scores. I just feel let down. FFX doesn't seem like it was made for the true Final Fantasy fans. Those who loved FF7 will have to go back to it, being that you won't find anything close to that experience in FFX.

best game I've played in a long time.
|
I'm really enjoying the game, but it's not for those that don't like very linear games.
|
I'm over 10 hours in and have been really enjoying this game. Yes, at times you are just watching, but the graphics are amazing.
|
compared to FFVII and VIII, this game is tops. true, at times there is a lot of in-game sequences, but it helps to progress the plot along. ok, the game for the most part is linear, but it follows the plot so it's acceptable. there is no world map and no exploring in that sense. but, let's be honest -- in FFVII and FFVIII, was there that much to explore? the only place i miss out of FFVII was the floating park -- i loved the snowboard game. there's nothing i miss out of FFVIII.
ok, just my two cents. :D |
Well I got it :) I must say the graphics and all are great and the story seems cool so far.. but I think I'm gonna regret speding $15 more for the hint book, cuz so far I haven't needed it at all, it's like there's only 1 way to go so you never get lost... but it seems cool so far :)

"FF7, probably the best of the series"
I cannot believe you just said that. |

No, FF7 wasn't that bad. FF6 was like 700% better though. FF8 just plain sucked in every way.
|
I actually prefer Final Fantasy from the 8-bit Nintendo. Now that was some serious gaming. ;)
That's the only other FF I've played other than FFX. |
I've only played FFX for about 10 hours so far, and I'm enjoying it. But for those of you who can look past graphics, I highly suggest playing FF Anthology for PS1.

Didn't you guys have Super Nintendo's?

Those who loved FF7 will have to go back to it, being that you won't find anything close to that experience in FFX. FFX is really a great game. Instead of going through pages of text, you're treated to the text in cinema-style presentation. If you really think about it, when you talked to everyone that was like being pulled from CGI to CGI...except there wasn't any CGI there before, it was just pages of text. FFX has changed some things, but not as drastic as 8 changed everything. I like the new battle system with the ability to switch in characters. I also like the sphere grid, although I do miss the level ups. However you are in control of your power ups. 7 was not the best FF game ever, that distinction probably belongs to 6. 7 isn't even #2. But you see, 7 was the entrance for millions of people into the FF world and they never chose to go backwards and see what FF was before 7. Please tell me you've played the games before 7 and have gone into them with an objective mind (i.e. not, "Nothing will ever beat FF7"). I still go back to play the old FFs, you should too and see how great things were even before 7. I would also recommend playing games such as Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story and for the strategy elements, Final Fantasy Tactics which was sorely not played by many people. |
