I did a search and forgive me if this is a covered subject, but nothing in the past month that came up in my search dealt with this and I'm new to this installment of the game...

Anyway - wow, what a game. It has nearly everything from the first one (I never got to play the second one, but I understand it was more of the same) and more. There's so little to complain about. There's literally hundreds of hours of play to this game... I'd like to discuss some cool things you've all found in this game. So far I'm still in the first city, but I've managed to find a Semi, a bunch of City Busses, a really speedy sports car and we've managed to steal a swat truck. I know this is probably old news to most of you so I'd like to hear some of the cool things you've found and done and stuff.

I was doing the pay phone missions over by Michael Rappaport's auto shop where I'd go into that sliding gate into the dog food place and it ended up where the guy I was working for got whacked by a guy I drove over there - I probably shouldn't have, but I ran that fat bastard over several times and took his shotgun and his money. If I hadn't done that, would I have had more phone missions from that same payphone?

Also - I'm having trouble winning that race - is there a better way to do it than racing skill? Cuz the car physics are difficult for me to master coming from PC racing with stuff like Need For Speed... Maybe I should stop trying to race using a Triad Fish Truck.

This game and Final Fantasy X will have me owning a PS2 before the year is out. I can wait no longer. I spent 3 hours at my friends house to play Final Fantasy X and we spent the last hour playing this game. Its a masterpiece.

Watching him steal an ambulance and then go around running over people with it was hilarious. There is so much to do in this game it looks like it could be played forever.

Turismo is really difficult. Usually, I try to find a some what happy medium car to race in. Police cars work great, they're fast and they maneuver well. I'd practice the route you're gonna take, and one hint is when you go to the mission, lightly tap the side of one of the three cars waiting to race. The race starts automatically, and you have a huge head start. As long as you race carefully, and drive at close to full speed and follow the route good, you'll never even see the 3 lamborghini things. Hope that helps.

This game does absolutely kick ass. No doubt about it.

Unfortunately, with all the press it's getting, I'm not sure if Rockstar will be able to outdo themselves with GTA4, nevertheless, the Turismo race, I canno twin either. I've tried it with every car I've jacked. I'm just not a good "racer".

I actually beat that race when I rented the system without a memory card. I was screwing around with the Tank Code and thought "Hey, I'll just blow them up at the beginning of the race."

Well, that didn't work, they got away from me. But I won the race with the tank, because at various points along the way all three cars crashed and exploded. I just trundled along the route with the tank and won!

Of course, now that I OWN the system and the game and a memory card and I'm not cheating, I can't do it to save my life

I had no luck in turismo for the longest time, until I was able to jack the car in the car showroom (I think its over by where the fire truck is). I don't remember the name of it, but I'm pretty sure its the fastest available at that point.

I finally beat that turismo mission, but it's still available to play at the payphone? What gives? I beat it twice to make sure it wasn't just a fluke....

Best bet for Turismo is to use either the police car or the sentinal. I actually beat it with the police car, but came close several times with the sentinal. In certain areas with straightaways you wanna go full speed, but generall take it kinda slow and cautious throughout the rest of the race cause the other 3 cars do tend to wreck a lot. It definitely one of the harder missions in the game.


I still think the one where you have to gather the porno mags is tougher. The make you drive a slow a$$ van that has NO handling. Took me about a dozen times to finally beat that one.

www.gamefaqs.com will have lots of information as well as some walk-throughs. The car in the showroom is the best one to use. After failing a few times I got to know the route better which helps a lot. Good Luck.

Has anyone tried the race with the Banshee?

My problem with using the Banshee is that it gets damaged quick, and gets pushed around with other cars. I used a police car.

Go to the car dealership and ram the glass housing with a car. Steal the car inside, and you should be able to win the race with it.

You can turn at top speeds without having to use the hand brake in this car.

Also, when you start the race, let the other cars get a small head start. They will start crashing into each other and you can speed past. It is easy to get 1st with this car, but even if you get 2nd you can still get the next mission.

It took me forever to beat this, but as soon as I stole the car in the showroom, I beat it handily the first try.

Dont know where to get a rocket launcher, but I didn't find one for a rampage. AND THEY WERE HELLA FUN man. that was great.

I beat Turismo using the car from the showroom next to 8-Ball's garage (I think it was the Banshee, if I remember correctly). I just kept using the handbrake to powerslide around the corners and I beat it after 2 or 3 tries. I found the rocket launcher in the 2nd city, Staunton Island. It was in a secluded military storage area. I first found out about that area while doing a job for that one corrupted cop in the park. (Sorry, I don't remember the guy's name).

I had been trying with the banshee in the showroom next to 8 ball's place - I had also tried with sentinels and police cars and a big truck to try and ram them... nothing worked - I figured it out though - just let them beat you out of the gate, then once they crash, just go along at a medium pace - I actually took my time and never even saw one... Oh - I beat it using a lamborgini I got from the second island. The first mission from that island is damn near impossible I reckon. I know the route by heart and get there in like 30 seconds, but once I get there I get wiped out very quickly... I tried everything too - I even went into Luigi's alley and killed them as they came out the door, but he still got away. I eventually gave up on that and that's when I went back to the race (which was very interesting cuz everyone was trying to shoot at me when I entered their turf) and then did some of the other missions from that pay phone - now I'm kinda stuck on the third mission where I have to kill a bunch of Triads. There aren't enough around to kill or something...

Also - I said I had found these city busses in the first city - they were near the edge of the water because I was supposed to dump a car into the sea and so I drove around until I came to a body of water and then I parked the car at the edge and when I turned around there were these busses - I swiped one and went to push the car into the water with it, but ended up going in as well - then I couldn't find the busses again. I even walked the entire island on foot along the shoreline and still couldn't find them - was I doing something wrong? Where are the busses? I want to find them again.

Also - in the boat docks - there's a crane that'll take cars and my pager came up saying there's a list of wanted cars on the message board somewhere - but I don't know what the hell that means. I found out later they were taking emergency vehicles, but I would've liked to see the list the pager was talking about. Anyone?

Finally - I've got 22 out of 100 secret packages so far and every ten packages found gives you a new weapon for free at your save areas. So far it's been pistol and then Uzi - what's next and after that?

Are you talking about the mission where you have to kill your old boss, Don Leone? Yeah, I had lots of trouble with that, too. At first, I tried getting big cars and ramming it off the road. I also tried setting his car on fire with my flame thrower. The easiest way to complete that mission is to use the sniper rifle.

Once that one chick tells you to go back to Portland to assassinate Leone, go back to the first island and drive towards Luigi's club, but stay away from the street that it's on so that you don't get spotted. Drive past the club, then turn onto the street that the club is on, as if you're trying to go into the Paint and Spray shop. Walk slowly on the sidewalk towards the front of the club, but just enough so that you're over the "hill" so that you can get a clear shot. Get your sniper rifle ready and once you see Leone walk out towards his car, cap him in the head or chest. Make sure that you only shoot Leone -- don't shoot his body guards before Leone walks out or else they'll be alerted to your presence.

My idea for killing Salvatore:

Remeber where his mansion is? Drive towards the island but stop by the Ammunation on Staunton on your way over (its on the way and should be on your map). Pick up grenades and instead of going to Lugis drive uptown into the Mafia turf and go to his mansion. Park the car you are driving and the two Sentinels in the road to block the cars from entering. Poisiton yourself with the grenades and wait for them to show up. Sal's car will have a blue arrow over it. It make take a few attempts but its pretty easy to pull off.

For the guy that asked about putting out fires, if you mean how do you shoot thw water its square.

The busses are somewhere near the boat docks and Joey's Garage on Portland. Start looking around there.

I too never found the list they are talking about for the cars so that makes two of us.

There is a staircase up to a roof across the street from Luigi's bar, with a nice view of the alley. If you get up there with your sniper rifle, you can pop your target pretty easily, without any chance of reprisal. He has a big blue arrow above his head. You can't miss him.

That's how I beat it. I've tried with a Mafia Sentinal before, but failed, and I came across the Banshee, and it took about 5 tries, but I beat it.

Right now, I am on the mission when you pick up Joey, Luigi, and Tony, and bring them to Salvatore's, but those damn triads keep on ramming the limo, and baracade the enterance. I'm trying to find a different enterance to it, because the only thing I can think of to do besides plow my way in is to kill all the triads around, then move the fish vans out of the way.

Yeah - I did the street thing - we didn't know you could by sniper guns from the Ammunations place in the second city - duh...

2) Actually, you can get the SWAT after you with only 4 stars - another way to get one hassle free is to drive a police car up to the gates in the police station on Staunton Island, once inside you can steal a swat truck. Sweet.

3) I think that's a kill frenzy - one of the missions is you have to get a flamethrower and kill 25 triads in a minute or so - it's hard cuz there aren't that many around once you get the flamethrower.

My girlfriend and I and my friend played this all day again today - 12 straight hours... Ugh... That's all I see in my head now. When I close my eyes, it's just GTA3. Anyway - We've gotten fairly far and I just beat this mission that was hell - Maria's Yakuza girlfriend sent us to go rub out this undercover cop who's posing as a driver for her gang... so I follow his car and once I hit him my wanted level goes up to 4! It freaked me out. Helocopters and swat teams and crazy cops after me. I stole 4 cars and 3 swat trucks before I was able to rub him out - I don't even know how I managed. I wouldn't have been able to do it without a swat truck.

We would be further along, but we got really far and before we thought to save we decided to mess around and stock up on a bunch of weapons and do some rooftop sniping in the parking garage - we got our wanted level up to 5 stars and had the FBI after us, but we weren't able to get it to 6. What do you have to do for that? Anyway - we wasted a bunch of money goofing around and realized that we didn't want to save a game with us being broke so we decided to either not save or take on taxi missions to bring us back up (would've taken forever) anyway - in the middle of that the PS2 froze and we had to restart anyway. Oh well... we have about 500,000 bucks now and we're about where we were when we started goofing off.

edit: Oh yeah - you can shoot down the helocopters with the right gun which is cool and if you go to the very top of the parking garage in city 2 and jump a car off the ramp you get a really cool looking cinematic as you fly.

If I remember correctly, if you're going fast enough and your limo isn't too banged up, you can just ram right through the middle of the barricade and get through to his mansion. Also, aren't there small gaps on the left and right sides of the barricade that you can squeeze through?

For the Traid flamethrow mission head for the basketball court near Callahan bridge. There are a bunch there and its the only way I can ever beat this one.

You can only get up to 4 stars on Portland, 5 on Staunton, and 6 on Shoreside.
