Nice article about how the Gamecube did on it's launch. Not too bad.

The top three selling games were

1) Luigi's Mansion
2) Star Wars
3) Wave Race

Not bad for the big N.

Looks like it's going to be the best Holiday season every for Video Games.

CNet also gave the Gamecube a very mediocre review. The major problems with the system seems to be the poor amount of launch titles even though this is the best launch ever as far as games for a Nintendo system (they only count the number of titles and not the quality), the lack of DVD and audio CD support which was the whole point of the Gamecube, and the expensive $30 memory cards that I only paid $15 for.

Nice to see Cnet do their research before reviewing the console.

I won't even mention the ZDnet review of the Gamecube that looks like it was done by Bill Gates.

Maybe you read a different article, but it seems to be pretty even handed. They compliment the graphical power and picture quality, but also point out the obivious differences between it and the Xbox/PS2.

ZDNet is nothing more than a mouthpiece for microsoft. Been like that for years. Intel was one of the original investors in Cnet most likely still owns a large amount of shares. And CNet now owns ZDNet.

No, I think the battle cry of the Saturn was: "Aaaahhhh! I'm dead!"

What a crock of crap. The launch titles are excellent. Star Wars, Wave Race, Madden, THPS3, and Super Monkey Ball are all A+ games.

I can't think of any other system that had a better launch. X-box has Halo, Oddworld, Madden, THPS2x that have been consistently called A+ titles.

Dreamcast had Sonic, Soul Calibur and NFL2K

SNES had Super Mario World, Pilotwings, and F-Zero

N64 had Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64 (and that was it)

So the GC launch line-up is as good or better than any other recent sytem launches. I don't remember what all launched with the PSX (Madden, Toshinden, Twisted Metal?).

The memory card goof up just shows lazy reporting. The cards are $14.95 everywhere around here, except for EB who sells them for $19.99. But I refuse to buy anything from those bundle selling a$$holes. There's probably no where in the country selling them for $30.

And as you said the lack of DVD and CD audio is a plus. I never played an audio CD in my DC or PSX, and why would I want to use a console as a DVD player when I have a stand alone DVD player. Sure I could use it in the bedroom, but why would I want to watch a movie on a 20" tv using the TV speakers when I can watch it on my 27" Wega with DD/DTS surround sound? I'm much happier paying $100 less and not getting shafted paying for a bunch of features I'll never use. I just want to play games, and for me the GC looks like the best system game wise for now and the near future.

No, ActRaiser came out about two months later. I bought it as soon as it was released and I'm 100% positive that it was not at launch.

& How come there hasn't been a new Actraiser after the first 2 for SNES?

Since the SNES Enix hasn't developed much of anything for the North American market.

They are trying again by releasing Dragon Warrior on Game Boy and PSX.
