Bought a PS2 tonight

Well I've been holding off buying any new video game console for quite some time. However, Metal Gear Solid 2 just looked too amazing. So I went to Circuit City and picked up a PS2 with GT3 for 330 as well as a memory card and MGS2. GT3 is cool from what I've played and MGS2 is really really cool. Seems to play a bit slower(in terms of movement) than the original but still I don't at all regret this purchase. I played around with both an XBox and a Gamecube and while both were cool, the PS2 was just too good of a choice for me(as I have a bunch of PS1 games and controllers). Anyhow, just thought I'd share. Here's hoping I get alot of cash for my birthday and christmas to replenish my bank account

Make sure you keep your receipt. Sony announced a price drop for the current PS2 to $199, and also announced a new PS2 with a hard drive and bilt in DVD support (w/ real remote) to be priced at $399. I have heard dates between the end of November to the end of January. Hope it is within 30 days so you can get your $100.00

For all of you Naysayers, I will be back to tell you I told you so when this does happen. The price I quoted on the New "Improved" PS2 should have been $299, NOT $399. See you in a month or so guys.

Actually, in the world of truth, the real world.... Sony announced as recently as two weeks ago that THERE WOULD NOT BE a price drop on the PS2 this year or in the foreseeable future.

That doesn't sound right at all. If Sony were to drop the price of the PS2 to $199, then why would they sell a PS2/harddrive/DVD Remote bundle for $400? That would mean $199 for the system and $200 for the harddrive and remote? I don't think so.

I'm almost certain that the price drop was for the European version, not the US.

Fact: Sony has announced no such thing.

The only thing that i have heard is that they are tweaking the unit a bit to release one that will not need the memory card to update the dvd player. I think it will have a small amount of either a flash rom or ram. In fact if you look at the sony remote they mention that you need a memory card unless you have this specific model number.

I would not be surprised to see them retool the unit a bit but there is no way it is coming out in 30 days with a hard drive and a price drop.

Don't worry, there will be no price drop for quite a long while. This is the time where many of the best PS2 games are coming out. There is no need for them to drop the price because they are still selling well, especially because of the new games. Sony may surprise us at Xmas time with a small price drop, but $199 is out the question, and the drop itself is very unlikely.

I bought a PS2 just last week for a really good price (using promo GC's and giftcertificates.com promos) and I'm glad I did. MGS2 is the greatest. I didn't buy the PS2 when it came out because there wasn't any games that I really wanted to play. And the same thing goes for Gamecube and Xbox, it may be over a year before I buy one or the other, depending on what titles they will have. But unlikely I'll get a Gamecube, simply because I don't really like nintendo games.
