i've got one major bone to pick with it: the GRAPHICS.
yes, they are good.. but they slow down the game quite a bit. i have unclicked all of the "animate" features in the main menu, but it still takes a long time to go turn by turn.. or, at least, that's what it seems like to me.. anybody else feel this way? (or is it just my computer being slow?)

plus, when i load a saved game, it takes about a minute to two minutes just for the game to load.

i do like the new diplomacy set-up a lot though. and having no movement barriers in terms of moving around another civs units or cities. the game feels more developed, but it also feels clunky.. but, once again, that may just be because my computer is slow..?

Okay, now I feel your pain... after the game progresses, there are more units and computations for the game to make... it's very slow. I'll go off for a smoke and the game will still be computing the last turn... and this is not a slow computer. I think it may just be the way the game was written... I haven't found a fix at all yet...

I don't know how many times that has happened to me.

I would move my battleship, and instead of moving it east, I move it north by accident, right into anothers civ's ship. It all goes downhill from there.

??? Whenever I accidentally attack another Civ's units I always get a pop-up saying "This will cause a war, dumbass!" (or something like that anyway) and asking if I'm sure.

I meant the older games. But regardless, I usually do something stupid to start a war (or I get bored and do it "by accident").

Picked it up today at Fry's for $29.99

Brought it home, installed it on my desktop (which meets all the requirements) but can't get it to run. The version # is 1.07f - I haven't found any patches on their site.

Anyway, it installed and I can launch the tutorial but it crashes with "Unable to locate draw buffer; terminating program" - this happens when I try to build a city.

If a play a regular game, I get past the screen where you pick the terrain, but won't go to the next screen. I get a "Civilization 3 has caused an error in civilization3.exe. Civilization3 will now close." Then it says to try a restart which I did a couple of times.

I was running DirectX 8.0 and I upgraded to 8.1 and I'm running Windows ME.

Advice anyone? I don't think their phone lines are open since its thanksgiving, so I'll end up calling on Monday if I can't figure this out.

Got my problem figured out today (see 2 posts up).

Apparently Civ3 has problems if you have a scanner attached to your computer with OCR software installed.

So far, looks to be a nice amalgam of Civ2 and Civ: CTP.
