Consoles: GC, PS2

Why GC? The exclusives. I can't stop playing Animal Crossing, and there's so much coming out that interests me (Metroid to start)

Why PS2? Just the sheer number of games out there, but mostly for the RPGs and the GTA series.

Systems: PC, PS2, Xbox, GC, GBA. Dreamcast

I just completed the big three (having just gotten a Gamecube), and I have to say it's a great time to be a gamer - all three of the major consoles are great and have great games to play on them.

While I initially had shied away from buying a 'cube, I have to say it's one nice piece of hardware. After feeling the heft and size of the Xbox, it was pretty amazing to me that such great graphics/sound should come out of such a small machine. In fact, I am thinking of getting the LCD screen for it as well. And the games - picked up Mario Sunshine, Starfox Adventures, Mario Party 4, Metroid Prime, and Ikaruga. I'd never thought I'd say this, but it was nice to be able to play a game without blowing something up or killing something for a change (Mario Party 4). That may be part of Nintendo's style, something I did not appreciate until I got cubed.

Microsoft's Xbox is great as well - there's nothing like playing Dead or Alive 3 (or the beach volleyball) on an HDTV with the component cables. Ditto Mechwarrior, revisiting a genre I haven't played since the old pc games. And of course, when mentioning Xbox games, Halo is a must. I think that it is great that console makers are taking advantage of network technology to allow multiple consoles to be linked together, even to go online. I've not tried Xbox live yet - but can certainly appreciate the appeal.

PS2 - If for no other reason, it cannot be ignored due to the sheer volume of games out there for it, not to mention having the leading market share. RPG staples like Final Fantasy, car combat ala Twisted Metal: Black, stunning adventures like Ico, platformers like Maximo, fighters like Virtua Fighter and Tekken - you name it the PS2 has it.

Dreamcast - this is still my sentimental favorite of the bunch. I bought Soul Calibur and never looked back. I got a look at the arcade version of the game, and to my surprise, the Dreamcast version was superior - it was then I knew that this was a superior system. One thing I enjoyed about it was its library of unusual games - like Seaman, the first Shenmue, and Chu Chu Rocket.
