So who's going to get Devil May Cry?
Just curious who is planning on picking this one up. I know I am, it's like Onimusha mixed with a John Woo movie, can't go wrong there. :)

as soon as i replace my ps2 that crapped out on me I'll rent it. i wasn't too impressed with the demo
|
I played this briefly in Gamestop today. I didn't fight anyone, just wandered around for a couple of seconds. The control is nice, I wish they would implement this scheme in future RE games. I hate the stupid turn and face control of RE. The unlimited ammo for the pistol is a nice touch as well. If they port this to Gamecube I'll think about picking it up.

This game looks terrible with graphics that are badly done and the gameplay sucks! (excuse me for a second as I set down my crack pipe)
Just kidding, this is going to be one the best games of the year and I have mine already on pre-order to be picked up on Thursday. |
I will...have it on order, just waiting for it to ship.
|
i found the controls a pain in the ass and prefer the RE controls. I guess I am just weird... or maybe all you guys are weird :)
|
Have it on order and looking forward to it.
Read all the reviews and previews I could and played a bit in the store. I just hope it has some depth to it and a good story. Oh...and the unlimited ammo thing is in the final game? I saw some sites claimed it might only be a demo thing. Maybe I shold of read a bit closer. ;) |
Unlimited ammo IS in the final game. Whoever said it wasn't was wrong.
|
I'm waiting for gamestop.com to ship my copy....
I get a free t-shirt too. I don't know if I'll wear it. It'll probably be skintight too. An even better reason to wear it in public. |
|
I'm definitely gonna buy it. I played the demo and it looks and plays great.

It sounds SOOOOOOOO sweet. I'll certainly pick it up. I showed my wife the final line in that IGN review -- something like if you have a PS2 you have to get this game, and if not, it's reason alone to buy one -- and she just rolled her eyes and sighed (which means she realizes it's a lost cause to talk me out of this purchase). Does anyone know if Sam's will carry it (they've been stocking more PS2 games and at a good price lately).
Man, we're just coming off the most expensive period in DVD releases all year, and now I've got to deal with 4 must buy PS2 games in a little more than a month? (DMC, GTA3, Tony Hawk 3, and of course, MGS2) That's just unfair! I guess Sony's strategy is to make you so broke this fall you couldn't possibly afford a GC or X-box. |

Just wait till Mid-November. I'm actually debating skipping DMC for now because there is just so much coming out. In 1 week in November, we have SSX Tricky, MGS2, GameCube (which I will get), X-Box and several DVDs. How are people supposed to afford even 1/4 of this stuff. |

Originally posted by AgtFox Unlimited ammo IS in the final game. Whoever said it wasn't was wrong. That's good to hear. I really hate games where you have such a short supply of ammo. Dino Crisis is just gathering dust cause I got 3/4 of the way thru it and have no ammo and just had to run away from everything. I wanted blood and carnage......not sprinting to the next doorway to avoid being killed. |
This is starting to sound like the good old days of Contra are back and in 3D.

Well, I picked it up today, :) thought I would give my little personal review:
Graphics: 9/10 Devil May Cry is a beautiful game. It rivals Onimusha for graphics quality for the genre. The animation is a little better in DMC I think, it is fluid looking and breathtaking at some points. Control: 10/10 While it may take a little while at first to get used to the control, once you get it down it's a cynch. The game gives you a cool feeling slinging between demon sword and guns to take care of the baddies. My favorite is knocking the enemy into the air, then pulling out my pistols and juggling them with bullets till they fall apart. It's not typical Resident Evil clunkiness running around either, you don't steer Dante (the main character) he goes where you point him and is very fast and nimble. Sound: 10/10 The sound fits perfectly and is great. The music is typical horror genre creepy, but when you get into a fight it breaks into heavy metal guitar riffs that get the adrenaline going. The voice acting is great, although campy at times, but that just adds to the game. Difficulty: 9/10 Man.... I have to say, Devil May Cry is the hardest game I have played in a long time. If you get surrounded and can't get away you might as well face it your gonna die, and continues are expensive to buy. The boss fights are very large scale and challenging also. The puzzle aspect doesn't interfere with the flow of the game at all, you find a key then find yourself back at the door you need to unlock. Overall: 9.5/10 I have to say, this is one of the best efforts by Capcom in a very long time. Onimusha was good but short. Res Evil is getting aged. And the 2d fighters are a dime a dozen. DMC is a gem among the sameness of the industry. With 10-15 hours of gameplay it will last you a while also and is probably one of the longest PS2 games out there. I'm not very far into the game, and am thinking about starting over so that way I get my continues back that I used, I didn't expect the game to be so hard. Finally I have a game that is challenging, fun and gives you that "cool" feeling that most games wish they could give. Bottom line is, if you have any desire to play a fantastic game this is the one for you. GO BUY IT NOW! And yes, this game is a reason to get the system in my opinion :) Todd |
I'm curious about this one, but do they have to make every game pitch black?
|
I got mine today as well
Very awesome game..I'm stuck on the first boss, some big spider thing however |
Yeah thunderball, i just got passed him, but i've continued too many times, i want to restart and save all my continues. To beat that guy you have to either A. Jump on him and shoot him jon woo style. B. Demonize yourself and hit him head on, avoid repeat. I can't get over how difficult this game can get at times, it's really rare this day and age. :) Gamers have it easy.

That spider guy was really annoying! I just got the first sword power up (don't remember the name), and just did that move over and over until he was dead. It seemed to counter that flame shot as well.
|
Cool!! I'm glad this game lived up to the hype surrounding it. I haven't had a chance to play the demo but I think I'll try picking this game up as soon as midterms are over, it looks awesome :)

Dragon Fly
Thanks so much for the review. Like hearing it from the "common person" I can't wait to have this. I need something other than a driving game and it was either this or a fighting game. Since I got my PS2 the other week I swear I've played more of my old PS games than GT3 or Crazy Taxi. This game will save me. and it will also hold me over till FFX. So it's a tough game huh? I hope it's not so tough that I snap a control but I look forward to a challenge. I have mine shipping with a DVD that won't be released for another week or 2 so I have to sit and listen to you all enjoy it. :( poor me ;) |
Gonna get mine free today hopefully for doing some editing work for Capcom :D
|
Am I the only one who thinks this game is really hard?
I'm only at the first boss (the giant spider) and got my ass handed to me within 5 seconds. I couldn't even get the easy option mode to open up. If the game stays this hard, I may have to return it. |
