No U.S. PS2 price drop this year.

This sucks for those waiting for a price drop to get a PS2. I know many were hoping it would drop around the release of MGS2.

No U.S. PS2 Price Cut this Year

PlayStation 2: Sony America will not follow Sony Europe's lead and slash the price of PlayStation 2 this year, despite looming competition from Xbox and Gamecube. Full story inside.

The price of PS2 will see a huge reduction this Friday but only in Europe. A spokeswoman for SCEA said, "We're holding firm to the assertion made earlier in the year and one also made to our business partners that we will not be reducing the price of the PS2 in North America ... at least for the course of this year.

"We've never been a company that makes decisions based on the competitive landscape. And we are not going to be competing this year, or even necessarily next year, for the same kind of customer as Nintendo and Microsoft."

Many people expected Sony to cut the U.S. price of the console in order to quell consumer demand for Xbox or Gamecube, both of which launch in mid-November. But with Microsoft currently unsure of how many units it can supply of Xbox at launch, and Nintendo unable to raise Gamecube shipments, PS2 seems like your best bet for a console this holiday, analysts say.

I'm still betting that Sony will drop the price this holiday season. Probably down to at least $249

That's the part that gets me. When all these companies claim that they are going for a different audience. What does that mean? I'm pretty sure they appeal to mostly the same people, with some fringe demographics on the side.

If they are smart they will drop their pricing. The PSX was $300 when it came out too, wasn't it? Or was it $400? I can't remember, i went with my roommate when he got one...

Anyway, I have a feeling they are going to get spanked if they don't make it really attractive to spend that much money. Here's hoping MGS is as cool as it looks I guess...

Feet on top???? djones jules slaps Jack across the room.......

Djones: "Now....what did you say?"

Jack: "PS2 rules as does djones"

I will more than likely pick up a Gamecube but not at launch....they need to show me the software prior to me purchasing this bad boy. With the re-make of RE.....RE ZERO...Zelda...I will definitely purchase this bad boy eventually!!!

Xbox.....doubtful unless they can produce some titles which the other systems do not already have in the works which are worth anything. Like....Shenmue II Sold my Dreamcast so I would love to see this game on one of the other systems.

Actually, with its size and shape, a Gamecube would make a much more comfortable footstool.

It's too small for my big feet. Guess I will have to get an X-box.

I can see the adds now. X-Box, the ultimate 128 bit gaming foot stool.

Seriously though, no price drop means no purchase for me. Looks like I will be getting a Gamecube this year.
