Zelda, Who Likes The New Look?

Or should I say who can tolerate it?

Worst mistake since Greedo shooting first.

I wish it was what they showed at Space World 2000, but this look has grown on me. I like everything but Link's eyes. He looks like Pa Rappa or whatever that guy's name was. Looking at Mario Sunshine, I only wish they would have switched looks between that and Zelda. Oh well, I'll still buy Zelda because I love those games.

I would prefer the badass looking Link but as long as the gameplay is there... does't really matter to me.

I was pretty much shocked too. I remember seeing those Zelda Oracle of Seasons and Ages commcercials on TV(I actually have it on my HD) and thought, "man, thats sweet if thats what Zelda GC will be like."

The change is pretty radical but I think it looks pretty cool, I have faith in Nintendo and they won't screw one of their most popular series, I'm still in the middle of Seasons right now and love it. I'm not giving judgement until I actually play this game first or see enough of it, they still have time to make adjustments although it looks like the gameplay is already looking good. I remember when Zelda 64 was first coming out Miyamoto said that they changed Link's face about 6 times until he has happy with the result.

My personal opinion:

Zelda games are overrated. They're the same damned story everytime: must save the princess. Can't this chick stay out of trouble? Arrrg...I played Zelda I, and thought it was awesome, but every game since then's been essentially the same.

BUt this is a problem with Nintendo, they can never make new games. They only remake old ones:

Cases:

Mario
Zelda
Wave Race
Starfox
Mario Kart
Donkey Kong

I could go on and on and on kids.

I think Nintendo will be dead in the water in a few years, with Microsoft entering the playing field. Nintendo is too "kiddy." No kids can shell out $200 for a system, and their parents won't do it very long either. Sony and Microsoft are on the right track, marketing for the teenage crowd.

I hate Nintendo. I hate it.

There have been, what, 2 Wave Race games, 2 Starfox games, 1 Donkey Kong game( in its present form. The present form is nothing like the 80s arcade game). By that rationale, you must hate thigs like MGS2/MGS2, Final Fantasy XXVIII (or so), etc.

Yeah, veeeeerrrrryyyy kiddie:

Back on the original topic, the eyes are the only thing that bother me. The gameplay is what matters though.

I strongly dislike the new look. I would have rather seen Nintendo make an all-new game with the cartoon look than to make such dramatic changes to Zelda. But having said that, I'm sure it will still end up being a very good game. It reminds of Yoshi's Island on the SNES: If the gameplay is good, people will put up with the excessively childish graphic style. Even though it's no longer one of my most anticipated games, I'll still give it a try when it comes out.

I completly agree with you seagraves Nintendo hasn't made a decent game in a long time, Granted Zelda and Goldeneye were good, but correct me if Im wrong, Isn't Perfect Dark a clone of Goldeneye, and Majoras Mask a clone of Ocarina.

THEY HAVE GAMES CALLED MARIO SUNSHINE!!!

juiio this looks kiddie.

FISHER PRICE MAKES EVERYTHING!!!

I'm looking forward to it. As long as it plays like the N64 Zelda games, I'll be happy.

I didn't say eery game wasn't kiddie. Obviously there are kids games. EVERY SYSTEM HAS KIDS GAMES. Does that make the system a kiddie system? No. You need some new material.

And btw, no, they aren't clones. The gameplay is different. If you've actually played it.

Gamecube is considered a kiddie system because about 80% of Nintendos games are "kiddie" games, there aren't any launch games that appeal to young adults, and adults.

There are only three launch games, the others come out a few days later.

There were about 5 or 6 Donkey Kong adventure/platform games for the SNES...

True I forgot about those, however the play in a 2d sidescroller is pretty different from a 3d platformer. Point taken about DK though. I'll remove that from the list if you want.

I like the style, personally. I think it's an attempt to "get back to the roots" of the Zelda series, so to speak. This version of Link looks to me like a 3D version of Link from Zelda I or Zelda III (Link to the Past). Also, a lot of the outdoor scenes shown from the new Zelda game look like 3D versions of the landscapes from Zelda I or Zelda III. I think that this could turn out to be a great game, but I guess it's way too early to really make any judgements on the gameplay (which is what I think will really make or break this game).

This number is now at 15 because Simpsons Road Rage was moved up to launch day. There is also one more game the day after launch. But don't let the facts get in teh way of a good story

Although I didn't like the look at first, after watching some videos of the gameplay, the look doesn't bother me as much. As long as it's fun to play, then I don't mind that much. I loved the SNES, and although I've sided with Sony in the past with the PS and the PS2 in this war, I still think that Nintendo makes quality games. Some people might simply look at the title "Mario Sunshine" in disgust, but after watching some videos, it looks fun too. And knowing Miyamoto, it'll probably have an innovative aspect to it that makes it fun. A little OT, but my jaw dropped when I saw screens for the remake of RE on GC. Those look amazing! Getting back on-topic -- Yes, I can tolerate the new Zelda look.
