One and Only Gamecube preorder thread

Note: I posted this here and not in Other Bargains because you probably won't get anything for below the normal price, so it won't be a bargain in the strict sense of the word.

Outpost.com

Outpost has three bundles available. Comes with:
  • Gamecube
  • One extra controller
  • One memory pack
  • One of: Luigi's Mansion, Wave Race, Super Smash Brothers
Price: $289.95

Not a bad deal. Comes out to $5 less than the sum of all the parts.

They also have the games, controllers, and mempacks individually. Cubes are available in black and purple. They also have Pikmin and Eternal Darkness for preorder.

Be warned that if you get the Smash Brothers bundle, you *might* not get it until December, since the game is out ttwo weeks or so after the system.

Jeremy517 09-08-01 04:30 AM

For Canadians: Futureshop has them available. Click on the Games link at the top.

darkside 09-08-01 06:34 AM

Thats more like it. Forcing you to buy three games like Microsoft is doing is crazy. A system and one game is a much more sensible bundle. However, I would love to find one without the extra controller.

Flay 09-08-01 09:28 AM

Microsoft isn't forcing anyone to purchase in bundles. The console will be at all major retailers un-bundled.

Microsoft does provide extra incentives for retailers that want to sell in bundles. That just makes good business sense.

Anyway Nintendo is doing the same to a certain extent.

Since this is a GC thread, here is what I know.

TRU.com will be selling in bundles. The GC, 3 games, and the extra controller. $399, I think.

I didn't say they were forcing me to buy a bundle. I said they are forcing you to buy three games with their bundles. Big difference. To get the $18 kick back from Microsoft retailers have to sell the bundles with three games and accessories to equal $500. The point I was making is that it would be nice if there was a one game bundle option for Xbox as well.

Anyway this is a Gamecube thread and though I'm not big on bundles the one at Outpost is pretty fair. Most people get one game and a memory card when they buy a console, so what they are asking is pretty reasonable. I will probably order the Luigi bundle with a Jet black Gamecube. I'm sure I'll need the extra controller at some point anyway.

Thrillhouse 09-08-01 05:10 PM

That seems like a good bundle, and the price is allot more afforable then an XBOX bundle.

Thrillhouse 09-08-01 06:11 PM

Will there be a pre order of just the GC????

joeblow69 09-09-01 09:13 AM

Cool! I just preordered one. Does anyone know if the controller and memory card are Nintendo brand? I hate 3rd party controllers!

It looks to be all official Nintendo stuff. I don't see third party junk listed anywhere.

joeblow69 09-09-01 09:25 PM

I just found out you can preorder Super Monkey Ball at buy.com for only 36.99! I can't seem to find it from their menus or searching their site, but if you use this link:

http://www.us.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=50010882

you will get there.

I think that's a pretty good deal. Release date is 10/31/01.

KrackerBox 09-10-01 03:44 AM

i preoredered gamecube from outpost.com, but it seems that they are currently out of stock, meaing that i won't be getting gc until a lot later after the release, anywhere else i can go?

I'm gonna try and hit Best Buy early in the morning since they usually have the most and then Target, Walmart or Kmart next. I'm hoping there will be enough systems there so that people won't line up the night before or what happened with the PS2, I'm going to freak out if it does, man that was the worst I don't want to live that again! :(

Still, its a little early to have a plan I might just preorder if they have a demo in the store I can get my hands on but by then the preorders might already be sold out. Too many decisions....

Cornemite 09-10-01 11:32 AM

Does anyone know if the Japanese Gamecube will run US Games? I thought about picking one up so I can avoid all the pre-order hype. Otherwise, I'll have to pre-order from EB or Gamestop.com. I had good luck with my PS there last year.

T(his is OT, but last year, when dailyradar.com was still around, I was able to pre-order X-Box and 3 games for $499. Not great, but I'm not stuck with the extra crap. )

Its doubtful the Japanese Gamecube will run US games without some kind of mod.

mljones99 09-11-01 09:05 AM

I preordered the gamecube, mem card, and extra controller out outpost.com on Sept. 5 before they had those bundles..

True... I'm not familiar with the GC's media or its architecture. I was just trying to think of a way to avoid the preorder craziness... Has anyplace else on-line started pre-orders?

SpacemanSpiff 09-11-01 12:17 PM

i think outpost.com stopped taking gamecube preorders
i cant find it

DAMNIT

According to IGN:

"Some development studios have explained that there is a possibility that the Japanese GameCube will be able to play US software with a few hardware modifications."

darkside 09-11-01 01:39 PM

Outpost must have already run out.

The Toys R Us in my area is beginning preorders next Wednesday. They are selling only the console for $199. I think I may just go this route since I had no problems receiving PS2 here at launch.

Hey, Venus, I'm in Chicago, too... Which Toys R Us are you talking about?

One more question for anyone out there... does Buy.com put an approval through on your credit card before charging it?

I actually called the Toys R Us in Melrose Park (on North Ave) and they told me that they will take preorders next Wed. I will also call the one at Golf Mill in Niles to see if they tell me the same thing. These are the 2 closest Toys R Us stores to my house.

Sc0rPs 09-22-01 06:15 PM

Is $225 shipped (express) a good price just for just the unit?

explosivej 09-29-01 08:26 PM

Costco.com has a GameCube bundle for pre-order:

Console, Controller, Memory Card, Game and Guide
$259.99

http://www.costco.com/frameset.asp?t...=10016577&log=

mljones99 09-29-01 11:32 PM

The Costco bundle isn't that bad. I'm just not intersted in Luigi's Mansion.

I'll stick with what Ihave pre ordered... black gc, mem card, and extra spice controller with overnight shipping for 255 from outpost.com. I got some ps2 games to trade in to cover the games (and some amazon coupons when they start taking orders for games)

darkside 09-30-01 04:45 AM

The costco deal is good, but I won't settle for not knowing the color. I don't want a purple console.

Groucho 10-04-01 05:36 PM

Amazon will start taking preorders (bundles only) on 10/8, between 2-4pm Pacific time.

PhYbEr 10-07-01 03:49 PM

these bundles on amazon come with a six month subscription to EGM, is that one of those things you have to "cancell before they start billing you" type things?

Aghama 10-07-01 07:42 PM

I was holding out for amazon, but their bundles are abominable. Guess I'll be hitting TRU early on the 18th.

T-Wolves 10-08-01 12:12 AM

Anybody know when ebgames.com will start taking pre-orders? They had my PS2 at my door on the launch date, so I trust them more than I do amazon.

Jeremy517 10-11-01 02:34 AM

KBKids is now taking preorders (bundles only)

http://www.kbtoys.com/kbsearch.html?...T367&ls=vgames

They have 2 bundles, each in black and purple:

One bundle is Console, Luigi's Mansion, Madden 2002, Rogue Squadron 2, and a Memory card for $399.99

The other bundle is Console, Luigi's Mansion, Wave Race, Rogue Squadron 2, and a Memory card for $399.99

Not the best price in the world, but its out there

This is a pretty bad deal.

System 199.99
Games 49.99 X 3
memory card 14.99

Thats a total value of $364.95

I love it when they try to cheat on preorders.
